Great Christian bassists?

Christian is a Marketing Genre - this is just a valid question as "metal, funk, rock, Reggae etc).

Wouldn't it be more of a philosophy?... as there are "christian versions" of all the STYLES that you mention. I may be wrong but isn't the ultimate goal of a christian to "win souls"? And thru the various styles they maintain that agenda? JB

Let's see...Tim Chandler is my all time fave bass player who did lots of CCM. Jimmy Lee Sloas, Mark Hill, Michael Been was considered a xian...not sure if he still is. Tommy Sims

Of the new Guys, I really like Rich Moore of Newworldson, who plays both upright and electric real well.

As far as the others Adam Nitti is a monster player as good as anyone alive right now. I love Tommy Simms work with Israel Houghton's solo stuff and Charlie Peacock. Andrew Gouche is certainly one of the stand outs in Urban Gospel and their are a pile of great players in that world.

Abraham Laborial still turned more heads at NAMM than Wooten (drew a bigger crowd too). I have yet to see anyone else play with so much Joy as Abraham. Another one not yet mentioned is Ken wild with the old R & B/Jazz group Seawind, he can flat out play, and his chops stood out in the Era of Jaco and Stanley. Jackie Street also played some great stuff on the early Russ Taft stuff.

As far as Christians not necessarily plying Christian music who are outspoken about their faith. Nathan East hasn't been mentioned and should be, as should John Pattituci, (who actually played studio on a bit of CCM back in the day).

I like the guy from The Chariot. Yeah, he's not distinctive in the mix of anything, but The Chariot is a great band and, when he can be heard well, it's freakin' awesome.

Agree with the those mentioning the guy from Lincoln Brewster's band (don't know his name). He has some really nice lines that I have a hard time with sometimes.

I went to college at Kentucky Christian College (now university) when Audio Adrenaline formed. They were called A-180 back in those days. The original guitar player lived on my floor and would come in my room and talk and pick up my guitar, shred, lay it down and leave. Will (we called him Bill then) was a monster on the bass then and still is really really good. I did a show with them last year I believe and it was a blast to see them and remember them in school.

I tried to be a burner back in the day. Then I saw a 16 year old Adam Nitti.

I was only recorded once with a little start up Band, but I filled in a gap with a Band with a Deal. Opened for Petra, Kim Boyce, Mylon, shared stages with Bash-N-the-Code, Servant bunches of others. Maxed out in front of 10K people.

Adam is it though, the real thing too.

Sorry Jeff 66... I posted before I read your post. Regardless... I'd rather have a beer with DUg Pinnick more than anyone else mentioned in the thread. He's been my favorite musician since I picked up "Out of the Silent Planet" in 88.

I had a beer with Doug three or four years ago. He's a cool guy.

Justin Froning from the band Deas Vail is a great bassist. Also Roy from MuteMath. Both great bands, but they're also not the worship-style Christian band...
And of course, Ryan Owens from Robbie Seay Band- crazy good bassist.

Norm Stockton (Lincoln Brewster, solo, etc.) is ridiculously good, as is Andrew Gouche, Brandon Aaronson (Jesus Culture), Cassie Campbell (Misty Edwards band), and several others. Most Christian bands have really good musicians not just bassists. The ones that aren't really showy are still serious groove players.
