Great Fretless Tone /Playing - Lamont Johnson Gibson Ripper

Lamount is badass, A few years ago I picked up his Music of the Sun album from 1978, excellent stuff! His tone in OPs clip is reminiscent of Alpha so Johnson's late 70's fretless tone. Go to the 22 minute mark, Alphonson kills on this and swings his ass off.
Yes. That’s the out of phase tone of the Ripper bass. The same out of phase tone that Alphonso Johnson has in his solos. Love it! You only can get that honkey sound when you have a phase switch, which not many basses have.
I remember trying to figure out if it was a pedal or what, back in the 70's. Alphonso is still one of my favorite bassist!

I’ve only listened to whatever YT links were put up here. He’s got chops but very musical. What I’ve heard I like.
