For the next few days, I am (temporarily) in the enviable position of having four very nice (and for the most part, pretty rare) preamps to try out in my house here in Portland, running through my Bergantino IP310. I also have several nice basses here, including my Sadowsky. Great situation to be in, right?

Wrong.

Those who spend far too much time here on TB may have learned (or figured out from my avatar) that I had back surgery less than a month ago, and as a consequence, can only play bass for a few songs at a time before my back starts hurting. As a result, putting these preamps through their paces in the next few days (until TBer "arbitrary" takes back his Read and Kern) requires more playing than I can easily do.

Long story short, if you live in/near the west side of Portland, and are interested in helping me compare some pretty darn nice and rare preamps some time this weekend, or better yet, Monday morning, send me a PM. Obviously, the Kern and the Read are more interesting, as the Brunetti is basically unobtainable, and the Phil Jones Bass Buddy is not too hard to find.

I'll try to post some kind of comparison at some point -- but my limited ability to play will be somewhat of a problem. Hopefully arbitrary will come by and play a little through the units and compare them, but he's going to be heavily distracted by the imminent arrival of his amazing new bass, so we might get sidetracked.

In somewhat related news, those of you on the lookout for a used Kern IP-777 in excellent condition (without the wall wart!) might do well to keep your eyes on the TB classifieds in the next few weeks. ;)

Man, I bummed- I'm moving to PDX in three weeks, but I would have been keen to help out. I'm not much of a player, but I'm a hell of a critical listener. Oh well, I hope both the shootout and your health procede well!

Yo dooder! You mean this weekend?

Hey guess what should be here Wednesday? :hyper:

Oh and I already ordered an E-C set of strings...tee heet.

I wanted to do something this weekend, but family always takes priority, and my wife accidentally gave my daughter some milk (why the hell do they put cow's milk in most soy cheese?????), which has caused my autistic daughter to become unglued.

Hopefully we can try to arrange a mini GTG soon. I'm in no hurry for arbitrary to sell his Kern, so maybe we can try again soon . . .

Anyway, sorry about not getting this together. Planning around my daughter's condition is always a dicey thing. :(
