Great secret for making Acoustic Basses Guitars LOUDER!

I can imagine this being common knowledge, and if so I apologize, but it's a great trick thats helped me out a number of times and I've yet to see it anywhere else, so I thought I'd pass it on.

Whenever I'm playing ABG in a room, I make damn sure that my headstock is resting against a wall. The result is a dramatically fuller sound, and even better, the tone retains it's "acousticness." I find it to be a much better alternative than an amp, and it's let me forgo one several times. I have dreams about going to a luthier and getting some sort of flat tip to my headstock for this reason.

Even folks at home with just an electric, give it a shot, I think you might be suprised. =)

I don't own an acoustic bass. You are correct about the headstock vibrating the sound etc. Years ago, before practice headphones were around, I used to put the headstock of my Fender Jazz into my ears to get something out of it when it was too late to play in my house............................Those were the days!

I rest body of my electric bass against my acoustic guitar, same thing. Or on low cupboard, or on any closed wooden box. Try with doors. Or even matress.

Pitch fork????Tuning fork I hope.Isn't a pitch fork one of those big long tools that farmers use to lift bales of hay onto trucks.It is where I come from anyhoo.

i never practice with an amp. i just set my chin on the upper horn and let it bounce around my head. much cheaper. same concept.

Ask permission if you're in someone else's home.

Another secret to getting more volume out of your bass is to plug it into an amplifier.
