Yeah Jimmy, we're on the same page. I think the fact that Fender was in agreement and/or didn't have any push back was what swayed me. Also, I've only paid 50% on the bass at the old price of around $1700, so nobody has anything to gain by causing unnecessary heartache. I have a small thought that the bass was probably OK, but again, I wasn't there when they got it and opened it up. They said they had to tighten the truss a good bit to get it straight, until it got pretty tight - again subjective terms. Hopefully, the shop and Fender are doing right by me and replacing the bass. This will push me over $6,500 in bass purchases over the last 2.5 years at this shop, so I feel they are shooting me straight.

Well on the bright side, since you've spent that much already, you could probably get a cheap Jazz if you don't have one and put these in it to tide you over:

I have the PV74s in my 1972 Jazz bass and a USA Geddy so I can compare. I've also owned the Aguilar 70s set, the Nordstrand 70s wind, and the other 70s set Fender used to make (can't remember the model), and the Tom Brantley "Geddy" set. The 74s are my preference over all others.
Compared to the USA Geddy they are more articulate and clean where the Geddy's sound a bit more loose and raw. The 74s sound much more similar to the stock pickups in my 1972 than the Geddy's. I actually prefer the old Japanese Geddy pickups over the newer USA Geddy pickups. Now THOSE were some snarly, growly pickups! Too bad the newer MIM Geddy doesn't use them.

So I wonder if Geddy based the Tom Brantley pickups on an actual vintage Jazz set he liked or just went for his own thing. What I hear out of most Jazz basses I've played sounds like what you describe in the 74's, even the pre-CBS ones. From demos I've heard of the US Geddys, they sound like a cross between a Jazz and Precision to me.

That's a good point. Fortunately, I've got my '64 AVRI jazz that handles that need, although I've got it strung with flats lol - that bass just really jives with the Fender 9050L flats. My stingray special 4H handles the brighter stuff and I've got it strung with rounds (slinkys). I've been working on Headlong Flight (Rush) tonight with the StingRay going thru my SansAmp DI-2112. It's a good sound, but not that Geddy Jazz goodness I'm craving. Y'all best believe I'm going to play the sh*t out of that Geddy when it does get home with me!

The ETA for my US Geddy is now January/February!! And the price went up yet again! At this point I'm ready to cancel the order, but with the price increase has made the decision very hard.

Plus I have a GAS for something else now, and since I already have a CIJ Geddy, I technically don't need another jazz bass. I could still wait for the US Geddy to come to sell it and maybe make a small profit. And I can always just find a used USA Geddy in the future.

I'd suggest letting the Geddy come in (whenever that may be) and give it a fair shot. I had no problem letting go of my CIJ after I got the USA. What's the price difference between what you are getting it for and the new price?

In CAD the price before tax was $2299.99 for me. The new price is $2599.99!

The situation is that there's a PRS guitar that I really want. It cost about a grand more than the Geddy Jazz (from the price I paid), but if I can make a couple of hundred from selling it, I can put it towards the PRS. I already have a jazz bass and a 5-string. But in the guitar department, I only have a Les Paul guitar. And to complete the ensemble I wanted a strat-style guitar (could probably guess the PRS lol). So getting the PRS would probably be more beneficial. That's just my thinking.

I'm also selling my double bass. So maybe if I sold the CIJ Geddy as well I could afford PRS and keep the USA Geddy. But I doubt I'll get $3200 from selling both.

FWIW, I cancelled my Geddy order back in June, and used the $ to buy a very nice FGN Expert Mighty Jazz, which I had in my grubby mitts within 5 days. I'm still happy with the decision.
