Yeah, the rise in price is pretty frustrating given the wait times. But since I'm locked in with the old price I'll just wait it out. I want the bass that much :roflmao:. And at least I have the CIJ to play around with while I wait.

Meanwhile, I picked up a Rickenbacker 4003 in JetGlo, of course.

Geddy meets Geddy.

I lucked out and just happen to see Guitar Center had the USA Geddy in stock, seemingly at random. I'd guess that a pre-order came in and the customer didn't follow through. Or they pre-ordered at a lower price and sold it out from under him at a higher price - a common car dealer trick.

Rick's are in short supply and being snapped up too. I'd been watching for a while and I knew I wanted the Jetglo 4003 with the binding and shark's fin inlays, or a Fireglo 4003. The 4003s seems more available, but lacks the binding and has dot fretboard. One came up new at a dealer, so in a moment of weakness, ordered it.

The Ricky is interesting, I'm surprised how quickly I took to it. Feels different than the Geddy Jazz Bass. They have different sound, but more similar than you might imagine. The Ricky has a lot of character, the Jazz Bass is more flexible in what it can deliver. The shorter scale on the Ricky makes it easy to play, but it does increase the finger noise and fret rattle, which is actually part of the sound and definitely part of Geddy Lee's sound.

Yeah, I've been hanging in for this reason as well, but if it goes on too long, I may end up ordering something else and getting my money back. Fender may be the big fish, but unending delays without explanations are not good customer relations. There are other high quality j-basses out there from other makers.

Yeah worst comes to worse I'll get the money back and get something else. Probably go for a Ricky. But I'm pretty sure they have long wait times as well.

I bought my US Geddy because I wanted a 70’s era Fender jazz bass that was better built. I would get the real deal if I couldn’t get the US Geddy. Either that or I’d buy a used US Geddy.
Not to look down upon Sadowsky. But it’s just a different bass all together.

Talked to my dealer in Atlanta and was told a delivery date of June 15th...nearly a year since the order. He said the Fender rep told him they had issues with parts, etc, but basically said it will get there when it gets there.

I'm pretty perplexed because last year I was told I was around order number 60 for the bass and I have to assume there are numerous folks behind me. I think Fender really dropped the ball here and has been more interested in rolling out their ProII line and marketing gimmicks, as opposed to delivering high quality products and service. I get that COVID has affected things, but still this will be my last Fender purchase for a while. It's a shame because I love my vintage reissue Precision and Jazz.

To vent (and rant), how do you increase price and literally have no ability to produce or sell the product? I mean one of the adds on Reverb for Bass Central lists a delivery of February 2022!! With all due respect, these are Fenders we're talking about, not Alembics or Wals.

So Epiphone just released a limited Alex Lifeson Les Paul (guitarist of Rush for those who don't know). Considering my US Geddy just continues to be delayed. I'm considering getting this new Les Paul and cancel the Geddy Jazz.

Alternatively, I could just sell the Geddy and earn a profit but I'm afraid of finally getting it and wanting to keep it. But I don't think I can afford both the Les Paul and the Jazz at the moment. The Les Paul is a lot cheaper.

I could always get the US Geddy in the future when I can this Les Paul is limited and going fast. And I'm also worried about Fender discontinuing the US Geddy. I already have a CIJ Geddy but I really want the USA moel. Any thoughts??

Is the Alex LP a limited run? I didn't see that in the text about it. Considering it's selling for ~US$900, I suspect it will be around for a while. They may run out of the initial batch, but I'd guess they'll make more.
What makes you think F is going to discontinue the US Geddy?

You've been hanging in for the US Geddy for a while now - don't give up yet!

One of the sales guys at LA music said that the rep at Epiphone is limited. I can't see anything about it being limited either. But the last 3 Alex Lifeson models have been limited. Which is why I suspected this one to be.

I think if it isn't a limited run I will just get it in the future. But if it is then I'll probably consider cancelling my order and get a US Geddy in the future or sell my CIJ.

Depends on what you want.
I have an MIJ Sadowsky RV4, it is a spectacular bass, but it is not a passive 70s Jazz.
The USA Geddy is a unique beast with a one of a kind neck, a unique sound and a reputation for possibly being the best passive jazz Fender has ever made. The MIJ Sadowsky is every bit as well made, but has its own distinctive tone.
I’d love to try a Sadowsky Metro Ultra Vintage 70s jazz to compare against the GL. If I ever come across one with an Alder body and a maple neck, I might give it a whirl. The Sadowsky pre-amp is the real deal and I’d love to see how it would sound with a similar setup to the Geddy.
If what you are looking for is a GREAT bass, you will not be disappointed with a MIJ MetroExpress (I’d steer clear of the Chinese-made basses). If you want a USA Geddy, then get that. The Sadowsky RV4 will not replicate the sound of the USA Geddy.

Unfortunately, used ones are hard to find. They get grabbed pretty quick, and I'm careful about who I order from/deal with.
Considering ntang's post above, and the date that keeps moving, I'm again considering cancelling and ordering my other choice, which I know I can get. Maybe once the world settles down a bit, a GL will show up.
Still thinking about it.
