Great things about the USA Geddy Lee Jazz thread

is it a used one or new?

New.

They had 2 in stock, according to the web site (both Guitar Center and Musicians Friend, which are one and the same). Now they are showing as back ordered. I ordered through the Guitar Center site, as there's a store down the street and they'll ship it there for me to pick up.

I have a confirmed order, a pull number for the bass and the case, a UPS tracking number with a weight and billed, but according to UPS, they still don't have the package and no ETA to the store. Perhaps, that's just because it isn't going directly to me. It was supposed to arrive at the local store on Tuesday, but now there's now ETA since it hasn't entered UPS system.

Where is it shipping from? Certain areas of the south are still recovering from the extremely low temperatures a few weeks ago and busting pipes everywhere. Texas in particular.

Arrived today! Just picked it up half an hour ago from the Guitar Center down the street. UPS tracking was far behind the package. Labels indicate it was shipped as expected. Box a little beat up, but the case was ok and so far and the bass appears to be in great shape.

So far, my initial reaction is awesome. Reverse tuners were interesting, but only take a second to adapt to. The neck is a lot chunkier than my Fender JP-90, but I'm finding it very comfortable so far. In fact, it is a bit bigger than I expected, but so far, perfectly what I hoped for, a flatter radius and a little more comfortable.

Action is very nice and low, nut slots are perfect and the nut is finished properly. Just a nice touch of relief in the neck so truss bar is adjusted perfectly. Feels like a totally pro aftermarket setup out of the box.

Has the odd spacing between E-A and A-D strings others have reported. Not causing me any OCD. I think it is intentional rather than a defect.

Of course, I have all that new toy excitement and won't have much opportunity to play until this evening after work.

Share some photos! Would love to see it. I was a little concerned about the thickness of the neck at first. I didn't want a really thick neck, but I hear the USA Geddy is just thicker than the modern counterparts, which have very thin necks. Plus I'm starting to care less now that the tone is miles above the MIM Geddy. I love that tone!

Well, here she is, with all the tags and plastic wrap still on her. The case tag says october of 2020. There was a "QC Passed" paper in the case which said 12/2/2020. Not sure when the bass was made. Came with the ziploc bag of American Standard Bass accessories, tools, strap, cable, bass owner's manual. Even came with a long t-handled 3/16 allen, perfect for adjusting my other bass, but doesn't fit this one. ;) I cut open the box so it was pretty much a virgin instrument.

Got to play a bit tonight and compare with my modded JP-90 with Fender Yosemite pickups (P-J configuration). Hard to compare because I put half-rounds on the JP-90 a couple of weeks ago. The Geddy has great tone though, lots of output can really do that pop and snap.

Here's my long-term baby, a Fender JP-90 I bought new in 1993. I did some upgrades last year when the 'rona lockdown started. This one has seen a lot of playing time and I still really like it.

I put the BadAss II on it the day I took it home from the store. Thought it looked cool in black.

I found this CIJ Geddy Lee Jazz on Kijiji. Seems like a really good deal assuming it is in excellent condition. Thought it would be cool to own along with the USA model. Especially since the Japanese ones are only getting older. It's also in St Johns so I don't have to worry about shipping costs across a border.

I'm aware of the bending that can occur on the neck due to how thin it is. But it's definitely something I can live with. One of the photos added is this one. The neck looks a bit bent but it seems like it can easily be adjusted. Any thoughts? If it's the bass is in excellent condition I will definitely pull the trigger on it.

Looks OK to me actually. There's no way to tell without getting a measurement or looking in person.

It's not grossly bowed from the picture.

You could ask the seller if they can put a capo at the first fret and hold down at the last fret and take a clear picture from the E-side at the 7th fret or measure with a feeler gauge.

Not if I grab it first!!!
Just kidding. It looks ok, as far as can be told from pictures. Looks pretty clean. If it was me, and I had the spare cash, and didn't already have one on order, I'd go for it.

I'll probably ask for more pictures. As long as it isn't bowed beyond adjustment. Then it's definitely worth it to me. Maybe I could tell them if they took it in for a setup and took an extra picture with the straight neck they could raise the price a bit. I'd pay a bit extra for the reassurance that the neck is stable.

If you grabbed it first it would give me a good reason not to get it lol! I don't have spare cash, but it's something that I'd like to own. Assuming it's in good condition.
