Great things about the USA Geddy Lee Jazz thread

Hey folks, I was redirected to this thread by @lowdownthump (thanks). I ordered my US Geddy back in June or July 2020 from a Fender dealer here in Atlanta (Maple Street Guitars). I was initially told October/November 2020. When they called Fender back, they were told February 2020. I called Maple Street today and they said their system still doesn't show an ETA. Btw, I bought new AVRI Jazz/P basses from them in the past and they are very easy to work with and forthright, so I'm sure the issue is with Fender. I know COVID has affected everything, but I'm starting to get closer to a year since I ordered the thing!

I'm curious when you guys ordered yours (for those of you waiting). When I checked late last year, I think they said there were ~65 builds ahead of mine. I've waited this long, so I'm going to stay the course, but I would like to have some clarity! My wife and I are expecting a baby in June, so I'd love to have some time on this bass before my free time is reallocated.

First off... Congrats on the baby!! I ordered mine at the end of October. I was originally told an ETA of end of February when I emailed before I ordered. When I ordered it I was told mid-March. The ETA has been pushed back every time I have asked (I guess I should stop asking lol). I checked a few weeks ago and they are now saying mid-June. But that's Fender's estimate for when they can ship. So I might not be able to actually pick it up until sometime in July. The fact that you ordered yours in July makes me worry about the prospect of mine.

I bought mine from Sweetwater around July 4th. There was a waiting list at the time and I was on it for about 2 months before they posted mine online. It was a demo but came with full warranty and no damage. It came with a great discounted price .
I must have saw it the same hour it was posted and snatched it up .
Bass Central is my local store. They also had a demo model come in that same week. They also offer the full warranty and discounted price .
My advice is maybe call up some stores and see if they have a demo /2nd model.

I think there’s a solid chance that I may have just bought the last new US GL Jazz the other day. Managed to find it on reverb, and am currently awaiting it from UPS. Got delayed in Pennsylvania due to weather though, what luck!
I dunno....looks to be 3 brand new ones from 2 sellers on Reverb right now.

Did all of the dealers up the price to $2K on these across the board? Glad I got mine back in July.

Yup, they all went up in price after Fender increased their prices. I guess dealers prices will always reflect what fender charges. As another note about mine I might have to hop on the phone with UPS as this damn package has been stuck on “left carrier facility” for 3 days. It’s only going from PA to MA.

Considering we've gotten two UPS packages left at the "driveway"... meaning, in a snowbank somewhat in the vicinity of our house... well, good luck.

In waiting for my order, I have been considering getting a used MIM Geddy Lee. Then in the end I will have both Geddy's and I will probably be fulfilled in terms of bass gear for years. It would be awesome to have both. I want the 3-color sunburst but there are no dealers that have them new at the moment. I'm not happy with the recent price increase but I found a used 3-color sunburst on reverb and I'm not sure if I should get it.

MIM Geddy’s are nice basses too. There is absolutely nothing with having a MIM and later, a USA Geddy.

I've thought about getting something else to relieve the GAS while I wait, but then I think that once I get the US Geddy, I likely won't play anything else anyway, so why spend the $.
When you get the US Geddy, what will you do with the MIM? Will it sit in the case, unused, or will you use it when playing out (if we can ever do that again)?
If you have a use for it, go for it. But if it's just for GAS, think well about it first. That money would contribute nicely to a really good amp or other gear.
Just my thoughts - I'm in the same spot.

I feel like I will use both basses proportionally to what I paid for them lol. But in all seriousness, I would definitely use both to a good extent. Like when university campuses open again, and I have to move back. I'm not sure how comfortable I would be bringing a $2500 bass with me for the 4 months I'll be there.
And in terms of the future. I don't think I'll need any more basses if I have both Geddys. Maybe a Ric in the far future. But not something I really want. Although it's hard to promise to not shop for more :D.

It's definitely a lot of money and pretty hard to justify. But it would just be really cool to have both. Especially since I debated really hard about which to get in the first place. I'll definitely take a while longer to think about it.
