Had the good fortune to see Alain do a clinic at The Bass Centre in London about 1996 or '97. He was playing his 6 string fretted & fretless Furlanetto basses through Eden gear - the guy is an absolute monster player & very passionate about music too.

I watched a tape of UZEB at the Montreal Jazz Festival today. I think it dated back to 'round 85? Maybe a little bit more recent. The second or third track was SICK -- Alain played the head and soloed over a beautiful ballad and reminded me very much of both Jaco and Marcus. Wonderful playing. A bit bizarre -- they had a drummer and a misc percussion player with them on this date, and a guest singer for the last few tunes.

Both Jazz bass players. I have to admit that Jim Clench, the bass player before Steve, and currently back with the band, was a big influence on me when I was starting out. The bass line during the solos in Drop your Guns got my yeah yeahs way back when.

I saw April Wine last month and was standing front row between Jim and Myles Goodwin. While no one is going to mistake Jim and April Win for Geddy and Rush, I was impressed at Jim's playing fit the songs to a T with some tasteful playing.

Yesiri as I'm a Jazz bass blayer 90% of the time! Was Jim the bass player during the Electric Jewels time? If so he was awesome also, I have there first few albums on cassette somewhere, There is no credits so I didn't know.. I gotta dig that stuff out and put it to disc. Steve is the only one I know of cause of First Glance and Harder and faster and Nature.

Can't say enough about Mike also, I love Allied forces and The sport of Kings is a great album.

I was a friend of Paul Harwood (bass player for Mahogany Rush) had a brother that also played bass. We went to school together. He took me down to the old Tempo Studio when Mahogany Rush was rehearsing for some tour. The band had just left for dinner. They were set up a on decent sized stage with a wall of speakers behind them, a drum riser, a huge pedal board for both Paul and Frank Marino. I had a chance to try out one of his old Jazz basses for a few minutes. Loud. Very loud. To a young 19 year old, it was really cool

Kim Mitchell's bass player for the past 10 or so years has been Peter Fredette if I'm not mistaken.

BMC that is very cool! My big thrill back then was I got to jam with Brian "Too Loud" McLeod of Chilliwack and Headpins fame. I was 16 and it made a very big impression on me at the time. :cool: I also got hang with Ab Bryant for while. He was/is a good solid bass player and did a stick solo during the 82 tour.

I think we have officially dated ourselves :D

The Headpins were great. Thanks for reminding me. Brian McLeod was a great player. That would have been very cool. Great bragging rights.
