exactly. now get off my freaking lawn or I'll throw my ben-gay at you. And you'll like it.

+1 on Tommy Emmanuel... he's amazing.

These "who's the greatest" threads annoy me, because so much personal taste comes into play.

Having said that, you are talking about Jimi Hendrix (that's the way he spelled it, so I'll respect that) 40 years after his death, after a career that spanned only 3 years (at least the time his presence was known world-wide) and he never had a top 10 song. If anyone remembers this Avenged Sevenfold guitarist in 5 years I'll be amazed.

Yup.

replace greatest with "most influential" and you get a slightly better thread.

personal favorites that haven't been mentioned yet would include Newton Faulkner, Rory Gallagher Peter Green Tom Morello and Pete Townsend
Still it's hard to get away from Jimi Hendrix either as the greatest or most influential.

this polls a joke there is no greatest..what you have listed are all very talented players in there own way...plus so many out there that are not listed...most influential would make more sense then Hendrix, Page, Beck, Clapton etc would be at the top of my list. ask any well know guitarist now who his or hers influence was and I bet you hear one of the above mentioned. watch the dvd It Might Get Loud with Jimmy Page The Edge and Jack White

I'm a huge fan of John Sykes' work. I know he's not the most technically proficiant guitarist out there, but I dig his tone and style. For technical mastery I'm partial to Steve Morse or Jeff Beck. On that list I'm going to have to go with Jimmy Page, but Hendrix is a close second. Before deciding he was a blues genius I enjoyed Gary Moore a lot; his work on Thin Lizzy's Black Rose album was great. Yes, Thin Lizzy is where I became aware of John Sykes as well. Or was it Whitesnake?
