GREEN squier five-string jazz?

Hey y'all, just a question in case anyone knows -- I'm looking for a cheap 5-string to backup my Washburn and there's a guy in CL with a Squier. It's green and I can't find any green models on the Squier website, so I'm trying to figure out if it's a crappy Affinity or a reasonably decent Standard or what. The pics he posted didn't help me much -- anyone know when squier did a green 5string model?

I had one exactly like that a couple years ago,same colour too.
Points to beware of:
1 Very wide neck.I mean just over 2 inches at the nut,3 at the 20th fret
2 Pickups are normal 4-pole j types,and as such are not really suitable for an 18mm string spacing as this one has.I swapped mine for SD blade types,which helped but not much.
3 Not a great 'B' string.Floppy as hell and..
4 Heavy.Around 11 pounds.

Having said that,it's moddable.New pups,better strings would help.It's simply known as the Squier P5.That colour is Sherwood Green.I would suggest that it's not the best bass to start playing 5 strings with (IMHO)

FWIW I have a little bit later model. It is the Red burst (or whatever they call it) and there are a couple of design differences (the input jack is on the edge of the body and not the pickguard, for example). Granted, as Oldboy said, it not the greatest B string, but I got mine in '06 and I have literally played hundreds of gigs with it with no problem. I've actaully grown quite attached to mine and find it to be a great bass. I've had no problems with the pups either. Maybe I got a good one, but I get copliments on the sound from other musicians and patrons alike all the time. Also, it does have a wide neck, but I'm partial to that.

I love Fender/Squier. I currently own 8 of them. Thing is I've never played a Fender/Squier five string that I liked due to the aforementioned floppy B string factor.

That being said, you are looking for a cheap fiver as a backup. How much is he asking? If it's much above $150 I'd say "No, thank you". If it's $150.00 (or less) I'd say "Hard to go too wrong for $150".

Good point, and I was curious to see what people would say without considering the price. He's only asking $100, so it's hard to go wrong. On the other hand I live in a quite small house, plus the mrs watches my gear purchases like a hawk, so even at that price I don't want to get a piece of junk that will just clutter the place up worse and make her mad unnecessarily.

I had the exact same bass for a brief period(couple of months). Just like the other guys have said, it has a neck like an ironing board(wide and flat), and it has the floppy B string thing going on. Pickups are kind of meh....... $100 may not be a bad deal, but try it to see if You like it.

:hyper:This post inspired me to pull the trigger today on exactly the same bass.It's a Vintage Sunburst (red and black) as in Bobster's link.I'd had my eye on it for a day or so now,but Tims post gave me the push I needed to give another one of these a try.I must admit it's far superior to the green one.The B is much tauter,and it doesn't have the string volume imbalance that the other one had.A much better bass overall.I noticed in the link that the Sunburst is the only one with the jack mounted on the body.I got it for £80 so I think I got a bargain.Got a gig at the weekend,so I'll take it along with my VMJ
