hope so thxWelcome! Not an expert but it looks real to me.

Yes they did, the large pole pickups were earlier in the run, and are generally thought to be better sounding than the later small pole pick upsNice bass!
Calling the Fender experts - the pole pieces look oversized, especially on the J pickup. Almost like QPs. Did these basses come with those pickups, or are they aftermarket?
The string tree is most often between the F and d of the logo. Check out Kennis Russell on YouTube. He talks about how to spot a fake.I found a good deal on this fender Jazz bass special made in japan . I really want to know if it's fake or not . Thanks in advance

?Welcome to TalkBass!
At a glance, it looks like a legitimate Made In Japan (MIJ) Fender Jazz Bass Special, similar to the model Duff McKagan played on "Appetite For Destruction". The "E" serial number does match up with Fender-Japan's 1984 to 1987 production runs. If I remember correctly, the finish came from the factory in a Pewter color, but over time, it changes to that cool metallic green hue.![]()
Totally stockNice bass!

You know, I never understood why they called that a Jazz Bass Special when they built it on a Precision Bass body. I've seen lots of P-basses with a Jazz pickup in the bridge position. Anyone know why they decided to call it a Jazz Special instead of a Precision Bass Special? Just have always wondered about that. I wouldn't wonder at all if it was on a Jazz Bass Body, but everyone I've ever even seen pictures of is built on a P-bass body.I found a good deal on this fender Jazz bass special made in japan . I've had a few of those, and that looks totally legit. That one was probably pearl white and the clearcoat has yellowed nicely...
