Gretsch Help? *need quick response*

There is no problem with the OP's bass. I have a 5123 and I don't have any problem with the photo. It is a total non-issue in terms of playability or setup. The top photo in the OP seems to show a knob interfering with the bridge, but it's no where close - check the other photos.

This is a first-series 5123 in orange, which isn't an available color anymore. I love that Gretsch orange!!

Especially if you got a great buy on this, play it and enjoy it.

Compare with this one on Ebay...the knobs are in the same place. I don't see ANY problem with the OP's bass.

And compare with this one - also no difference:

I don't think you are looking at the same OP pictures that the rest of us are. Regardless, it sounds like this situation is getting resolved.

It's not the bridge because if you look closely you can see that the knob farthest to the right is in the wrong place as well
The pots are off but so is the bridge. Look at the photos of the other bridges. I think if the bridge was set properly it wouldn't be right on the knob.
If it was mine I would set it up properly and play it before considering sending it back.
But it isn't mine, it's the OP's and he has made his choice.

Well, I am the OP but yes. I've made my choice :p

I don't think I could send it back for a refund if I were to tweak the bridge or remove the foam. It has to be returned in "exact condition in which it was sent out"

So I'll just leave it be, get my money back and get myself a properly manufactured one for less, sometime down the road.
:bassist:

You can still get the new series in Burgundy if you wish. It's a fun bass, and a real looker.

And I still can't see a difference between the knob placement in the first photos vs. the ones I posted.

This first photo in the original post is mine, the one under it is another Gretsch G5123B which is not mine. The group of 3 knobs on my picture are too far up. The knob farthest to the left nearly comes in contact with the bridge. The knob farthest to the right isn't under the ball of the F hole like in the other photos (yours), it's right beside it almost coming over the top of the loop of the F hole.

Do you see it now?

AH! Your first photo is labeled "mine" and the next is labeled "another", which I assumed meant that it was another photo of YOURS - taken in a different light.

Looking at the photo again, the knobs still appear to be in about the same place in photo 1 and 2. (I'm not being obstinate, that's how it looks to me. YMMV.)

And further - they look like they're in the same place as mine are (see photo below).

To me it looks like the bridge on your bass is closer to the tailpiece...causing it to be closer to one knob. Have you intonated the bass? If intonation resulted in your sliding the bridge 1/2" or more closer to the neck, your problem would go away. If it has been intonated, then you do indeed have a problem.

To intonate mine, I ended up needing to angle the bridge slightly with the G-side closer to the neck and the E-side farther away...that happened after this photo was taken, as evidenced by the foam strip still under the bridge.

I finally see a difference.

If I mentally draw a straight line between the two knobs on either side of the F-hole on mine, that line hits the F-hole in two different places. Check it:

Sorry that I didn't see this before, but I needed to find a frame of reference. If those photos help you with Fender, be my guest to download them.

Oh no problem! :)

Now my problem is Rockin' Robin Guitars. They don't believe that there is a QC issue.
They think it's the basic design :P but whatever, back it goes!

They refused to refund my shipping (understandably, I guess) because she and her guitar techs know for a fact that there is nothing wrong with the bass.

Then I shared with her that I asked a few (15-20) of my friends, (you all here on TB [I didn't drop names or the site name]), and everyone said there is something wrong with the bass, then she sent me another message saying: "Unless your friends work for Gretsch I would question what they are saying"

I DID contact Gretsch before I contacted R&R and presented to them a picture of the bass in question and even they agreed that there is, in fact, a QC issue.

And as if we have a reason to lie or make this up. But you know, the funny thing is I DID contact Gretsch and showed them a picture of the bass and even THEY agreed that there IS a QC issue...

*shrugs shoulders*

Hopefully that's in an email or other form you can share with Rockin' Robin.

I will say that as long as the knob doesn't interfere with the placement of the bridge when it's intonated properly, I wouldn't be bothered by it.

Yeah I would share it as it was through email, but I doubt they would care enough to change anything. I thought about keeping it but if I spend my hard earned money, I want the bass to be they way it's supposed to be. The price wasn't that good either. I could definitely find another one that's correctly manufactured for less from a store with slightly better Customer Service.
