Grolsch beer bottle washers for strap locks

I've use Grolsch washers for years, also thin black 1-1/4 x 3/8 x 1/16" washers for the hardware store.

Over the years I've used the older Grolsch washers and the newer ones. Like everything else in this biz the older ones sound better. :D

They definitely changed the rubber on the newer Grolsch washers, it's a bit harder and less flexible. Still seems to function the same.

I don't hear the tone difference. I think you're trolling. Time for an endless debate thread with a poll that goes horribly wrong, closed, and members banned. ;) :D

The relic washers may look the part from a distance but they don't have the same mojo.

Yes, without the vintage washers a Pre-CBS bass is just another bass.

Now, install said washers, and get up on your bed.

Jump up and down like an idiot for a couple of minutes. Sling your bass at all kinds of odd angles in the process.

Did the bass stay on? If so, congrats, your cheap ass strap lock solution did the trick. :thumbsup:

I heard of this, for the first time, less than a couple weeks ago (apparently, I live under a rock!). This past weekend, I decided to try them, although I used black rubber washers from my local hardware store (3/8" hole, 7/8" wide, 1/16" thick).

They work perfectly! I still can't believe I've never heard of this.

Grolsch washers are my strap lock backup. I tend to have a couple with me at most shows. The also work well on the pin on my Thunderbird...the pin that is on the back of the base of the neck.

I have to admit that I enjoyed the beer this past weekend - I haven't had any Grolsch in a while, and this thread inspired me to get some... I'm still using my Schallers, though - lol...
