Group Sadowsky-Convert!

I never thought I'd like jazzes, basically because of all the bad playing fenders I've run across over the years.
Then I blindly bought a used (yet minty Metro) because I wanted a jazz bass and because of all the recommendations and positive comments coming from people I trust.

Needless to say, I wasn't let down.
The bad part is that now I seem to be addicted to highend jazz basses.
The Alleva-Coppolo should be here in a little bit, and I just got a team built, reliced CS "64.

Thank god I have a job...and good credit! ;)

The metro is such a great player.

One of these days I'm gonna have to play one of them Sadowsky things just to see what's up with Roger's basses.

I used to own a USA JO 4 string and that was a terrific bass. I guess one of the reasons I've never been excited about the Sadowsky thing is that I'm a passive bass guy. Maybe someday...

I love the Sadowsky tone, but I don't get one thing - why almost every Sad owner seems like he shortly needs to have another one??
Is it some secret drug soaked into the fingerboard to get you addicted? Why just don't play the heck out of the one you already have?

I didn't notice that with other high-end brands - its usually like one gets 535 (Smith, Roscoe, Fodera, whatever), plays 535 and is happy, not like - I need another three ones soon..

I play the heck out of all three!

One is a four, One is a 5 with 60s PU placement, the other is a 5 string UV70. They all have slightly different tones.

I can't speak for others, but I'm just a gear whore, plain and simple. I don't think I'll EVER find one bass that does it all for me, and I've played some pretty doggone high-end basses in my day. I'm married, so I can't "play the field," but I darn sure can when it comes to basses. :p

FWIW, as further proof of my gear-whore nature, Reverend #3 should arrive today. :D I play all of my basses fairly regularly, though my Sadowskys and my Reverend BH5 get most of the playing time.

To r379: If you're a passive bass guy, you may not dig the Sadowsky tone. As a primarily passive guy myself, I have to say that I outfitted my Metro UV70 with single coils, and often run it passive. That is NOT the norm for Sadowskys, which have their own signature tone. There's nothing wrong with a USA JO -- one of the best passive Jazz basses made; in fact, you may well prefer it to a Sadowsky.

Despite similar addictive potential, Sadowsky instruments have a far lower LD50 and are not nearly as destructive to one's self, family or society as crack or meth.




*LD50 is the amount of a material, given all at once, which causes the death of 50% (one half) of a group of test subjects. The LD50 is one way to measure the short-term poisoning potential (acute toxicity) of a material.

I'm really digging my NYC RV4 - can't say I'm dying to get another one just yet as I'm having so much fun breaking this one in. :)

Honestly, I really only want one more - a PJ5 and will be interested in seeing how the Metros look when they come out...

With me it was similar. I just got a Lakland JO5 before I got my MV5.

Years ago I played a Modern5 with EMGs on a gig and I didn't like it at all.

Then I joined TB and got "contaminated" by the hype. When the MV5 popped op on *bay, I only bought it because I thought the price was good.

Immediatly I became a convert and sold the JO!

I really need to play one at a gig or rehearsal because I have played Sadowskys three times, one time pretty extensively, and I can take them or leave them. To be more clear, I think they are beautiful, well made, and sound great. They just haven't struck me as enough of an improvement to justify the cost for me, a player who really makes no money from bass playing.

If I were doing studio work or gigging regularly in commerical venues, my opinion might be very different. That said, I have seriously considered installing a Sadowsky preamp in my basses or getting a Sadowsky outboard preamp.:)

Haven't played one yet... But I plan to make a trip to the nearest dealer soon.

I'm kinda not too into Fender J copies so I am looking into the Standard (MS-5) w/o the pg so it isn't quite such a J copy.
Plus, I've always wanted a J w/o the pg. :D

I've never had a chance to try one, but I certainly don't believe that they're a ripoff of Fender (I just don't understand that type of thinking), and the fact that so many TBers love them and praise the customer service makes me think they're not overpriced.

That said, price, as well as my strong preference for passive basses--primarily P basses, at that--will very likely keep me from buying one.

They are great basses I currently own 4 (J, P , P/J and Modern) and have sold other 4 (Merto J, P/J 5 , P/J 4 and Metro Modern) , I have nothing but good things to say abou Sadowsky basses, but honestly there are also great Fenders, great Zon's and so on.

So play what you feel and your tone will rock I have heard amazing tones with Yamaha's and MIM Fenders.

+1. I got the fever back Sept. 05 with my first Metro MS5 in Olympic White (oh man is it sweet!). Last year I got 2 more Metros (of course I sold some gear). Enjoy that new one you'll soon be receiving.
