Growl.

Hello,

I was just wondering, what are people referring to when they mention "growl"? Is it merely a slightly distorted tone? Will installing a j-pickup in my p-bass increase "growl"? I was told by the folks at Warmoth that the APB-2 has more "growl" than the EMG P pickup? Does this refer to output? Does punch have anything to do with "growl"?:help: This may sound like a stupid question, but I would rather ask a stupid question than not ask any questions and just be stupid.

Thanks

Wow, I'm embarrassed. Sorry about that.

Since the definition characterized growl as being similar to a "near the bridge" tone, I suppose that a pickup placed in the bridge posiiton would help, no? How "growly" is the EMG PJ set? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

"growly" also depends on the bass, the strings, and how you play...

an EMG PJ (assuming you mean the active set) is a decent flat response type pickup set...with a little big of tweaking (some mid scooping) the EMG can be quite "growly"...or it can be made (with a bit more mids) to sound more "farty"...
