Sounds like just a nice basic tone to me. Really could be had with any of those combinations depending on how you rolled the tone knob.

I suppose you are right. The poll results are all tied at 4 votes a piece so all you guys think that this tone neither sounds more J-ish or P-ish.

Or...everyone on here is just as confused as me as to what bass produces which tone!

i just hear the fender rhodes...on a recording, there can be so much EQ and compression that it's hard to tell. certainly the amp has a lot to be with it as well. a jazz bass + ampeg + svt cab sound is usually pretty obvious, but who knows.

in the end, you can make a jazz sound close to a P, it's difficult to do the other way around.

Im pretty sure those ESP's have an EMG P pup in humbucker housing. It could also have an EMG J in humbucker housing at the bridge

I can make either bass of mine get a sound like this. When I record something, when the mix is done the bass often sounds completely different than it did before (of course using Guitar Rig it is even easier to make it sound different).
