Guild/darkstar collection

I'm working on taking photos of the basses i have accrued over the last 8 years. Starting with my favorite guild basses. Thanks to Fred hammon and Dan schwartz for all the info over the years.

YEs Michael Dolan made the bridge and tailpiece. Changes the sustain drastically. the infamous pong is gone. which i don't mind except on that bass since it's maple and i play with a pick a lot. passive tone and volume on all. i tried some german preampthat has full sweepable lo-mid-treble frequency but i feel hagstrom/darkstars sound best to me with passive electronics.

Another Guild fan here! I keep agonizing about giving the Dark Star treatment to my Starfire II as I love my Dark starred Lakland. I may try it on my D'Armond Starfire first. I just don't want to ruin the value of my Guild. I love the master volume on these basses.

When you say "darkstar treatment" are you including the new bridge as well? just adding the pickups wouldn't devalue your bass IMHO. I feel that having the bridge added by mr, dolan might just add to the value. It seems, at least not yet, that guilds haven't reached the Non playing collector status. Guild basses seem to enjoy small following among players.

I picked up my Guild for $600. Try doing that today. I play all of my basses including the collectable ones. I think that Guild Basses have made collector status and that their pricing will only continue to escilate, but I've been wrong before. As a side note, D'Armond Starfire II's are hitting the $800+ mark these days.

Great photos - and I love your blonde SF-II! That is *exactly* the treatment I hope to give to a Starfire one of these days.

I have a similar vintage JS-II with a custom brass harp bridge+sustain block, and I have an Alembic-clone bridge and tailpiece very similar to yours that Marko (MPU) built still waiting patiently in the parts drawer. I'll probably move the DSs over to the SF, and put the Guild sludgebuckers back in the JS-II for variety (I actually enjoyed those Guild pickups for certain things).

I've always wanted a black JSII but there's not many around plus switching between long and shortscale is a hassle...
