Guild Pilot bass club?

A few issues only:

- A previous owner changed out the original 4 neckplate screws with 4 PANHEAD screws with a larger, better thread - right idea, wrong screws...
- A large chip (about the size and shape of a standard guitar pick) of the poly clearcoat has "flaked off" of the headstock - from the very tip backwards towards the nut and there are a few "unnoticeable" paint chips here and there...
- A previous owner was probably a smoker who, judging by the noticeable layer of gunk found on all of the tuners, never washed his hands before playing/tuning this bass and never thought to clean it...

Other than the above, which I can quickly and easily fix, this 30-something year old Pilot and it's original hardcase are in wonderful condition and will shine up real nice this weekend - a fantastic addition to "the family" and Pilot Nr. 10 in my collection...

Cool bass!

Oh yeah, you need to refill your gumball machine. Might look cool with matching blue gum!

The gumball machine is usually kept half-full with a mix of M&Ms - and it does require a coin to get some, but they don't last long as my daughter and I each have a horrible sweet tooth....So, I only put more in on every 2nd month and call it a "diet"...:D

I'll be sure to get some extra blue M&Ms next time I fill it though...;)

On better days it looks like this - but this is only 1600g of M&M mix, the maximum I ever put in there...I think it would take 5-6kg to fill it to the top which I simply do not dare to attempt...:dead:

HERE is one of the Pilots I have seen for sale in the wild over in USA about a year and a half two ago - I was ready to buy it and contacted the seller but unfortunately the seller would not ship...:crying:

I LOVE this color - I have no idea if it came like this from the factory or if it is a refin, but it's the only one I've ever seen like it...And, it's got Barts like an Advanced, too - not EMGs...

New Bass Saturday...:D

The timing was not good to spend the money (the last four Pilots in my collection have fallen from the sky at the worst times for me) but it's location, price and the condition was just right, so once more I've emptied my wallet for a nearly 40 year old piece of wood...again...:meh: :bag::help:

Anyways, I now own an '87 SB605 with a "foot" headstock...It's in excellent shape but it does sorely need a thorough tear-down and clean up, a new nut (it's got some kind of "wood-looking" replacement for it's original atm) and a new cavity cover (anyone here have an extra original lying around they would like to trade for or sell?)...

Very little normal wear and tear damage at all on this bass and it came with it's original case as well (case needs one new latch - also need help with getting a replacement for this)...

It's sporting a very interesting factory paint color - a sort of metallic orange crossing over to red...Very difficult to see in my fotos and I have no idea what to call this color - please tell me if you know...

The factory neckplate screws have been replaced (understandably) with panhead screws at some point - I will evt. change them out again to an undersunken type...

The sun is not out today and the attached fotos are pre-cleanup - I hope you enjoy them and your weekend...:)

Guys, I am away from home visiting family in FL, but will be back next weekend. If anyone here REALLY needs a nice Pilot, I might be willing to part with mine. It's a wonderful instrument, but I just have WAY too many bases. I bought it to see what USA Pilots were all about, but it just sits. I tend to be drawn to my Rics, Stingrays, and multitude of Fenders. My pilot does not get the love and attention it deserves.

Pretty sure I posted pics way back in this thread somewhere. If it is something you REALLY want, please PM me and we can try to work something out that is fair to both of us.

I can tell you that with only a single exception, and despite experienced, focused negotiating, my 30-35 year old Pilots have come to me at pretty much the same price as when they were retailed brand new...Of course, they are also more or less in excellent to like new condition - I won't pay top dollar for "beaters"...Those you can find pretty cheap...
