Guild Pilot bass club?

It's a wonderful instrument, but I just have WAY too many bases. I bought it to see what USA Pilots were all about, but it just sits. I tend to be drawn to my Rics, Stingrays, and multitude of Fenders. My pilot does not get the love and attention it deserves.

I'd 100% buy your Pilot, Dave - if I was ANYWHERE in the USA...It's awesome...!!!

But it would require too much effort on your part to get it here and I'd need it to be waaay down at "best friend's price" or below to counter the shipping costs and import taxes...

Still, if it ever must go and you've got no buyer, I'd like to be asked about it...;)

I will admit that I don’t have firsthand experience, since I can’t say that I have done much shopping for another Pilot, but there was definitely a recurring trope both here and sites like “Let’s Talk Guild” that Pilots are commonplace and cheap, neither of which I have ever seen to based in reality.
Both sites are really old, though, so maybe this could have been true in the late 90’s/early 2000’s when they would probably have been fairly unfashionable.

Of course I feel that I recall these threads revolving around being taken by surprise by what someone is asking for a Pilot “these days”, because they recall some magical time when every pawn shop had 4 Pilots and they were less than $200 or something.

Only for the clapped out, abused ones...Any of the really nice stuff with trans finished, solid maple bodies, the Advanced models, fretless or Kahlered models and you'd need at least 600-1000.USD - BEFORE shipping costs.

...unless...you were lucky enough to find someone somewhere in the USA selling a well-cared for, premium Pilot model for peanuts out of necessity or ignorance...

The "grunge era" certainly wasn't the time for a sleek and attractive bass like the Pilot - those guys liked to play on the cheap stuff, but that didn't mean necessarily that savvy Pilot owners were just going to "give" them away...Better to put it in the closet or under the bed for a decade or two and then try to sell it to guys like me...They know what they've got...

I *think* the change to 22 frets went hand in hand with the phaseout of the "pickguard Pilots", but I am not 100% certain of that...I know of one or two people who would likely know the correct answer, but they no longer seem to guest this subforum...

My Pilots are all post-pickguard - at this time...In any case, your pickguard Pilot looks like it's in incredible/mint condition - is it all original...? The more I look at yours, the more I'm thinking I should try to get one someday...
