Guilty Pleasures :(

Sounds bout right :D

Actually never realized it was just a NorCal thing, explains Mr. Fussy-Pants non-understanding of the word.

I thought this was pretty funny, from the urban dictionary:

NorCaler: "That was Hella cool!"
SoCaler: "Huh? Wha? Hella? That sounds dumb."
NorCaler: "No sir. You sir are Hella dumb. Good day."
SoCaler: "Oh yah. You're...dumbererer. Keanu rules!!"

Although, you can't hide Northern California's SoCal envy.

Ex a: Do you ever see Tom Brady wearing a long sleeve shirt under a short sleeve shirt? Or saying "hella," or ghost riding his whip? No....

Ex b: Besides folks in NorCal, who is knows for annoying everyone by saying "Hella?" Cartman!

:D

also funny:

"Hella" is an all-purpose word. It has its roots deep in the soul (I meant to type soil, but soul works here too, haha) of Northern California. It means something along the lines of "very" or "really," but it's much more than that. It's not just a word, but a statement of cultural identification, of a long-standing bond of trust and respect for fellow Northern Californians, and of a mutual understanding between you and the rest of the world that you are from (or, in the case of anyone who has lived with kids from NorCal, that you are an honorary resident) NorCal. As the subtle innuendoes of the word can only be understood by absorption, one must experience and be engulfed by it (as Northern Californians are from birth) to truly understand when its usage is appropriate. Hella is a word. It's a symbol. It's a way of life. Hella.
Correct:

This is hella whack.
I just ate hella brownies.
I'm hella going to the library this weekend.

Incorrect:
I'm going hella to the library

Ok, I'll confess. This is my latest, horrible, guilty pleasure.

I was driving to Dubai this morning and tuned on Radio 2. Heard a cheesy, rockish upbeat song and I got hooked. Loved it. Hummed it for the whole trip.

I googled the lyrics tonight, got the song and found out it's... Invalid Link Removed. Oh my. :help:

Before starting the hate - both in Europe and in Middle East they're kind of a one-hit wonder and nobody really care about them. I figure only in America they're hated like the antichrist.

So yes, I think I should feel guilty. But hell, I like this song, I just purchased it on the web and now it's in heavy rotation on my iPod. Deal with it. :bassist:

HAHA! That was the last group I expected to see....

Hey man, no shame in that. Get down to what you get down to!

Hehe, yeah. I really like that song. :D

No no, links to anything safe for work are permitted on TB.
Like mac says, I mostly (99% of the time) use this site from work, and we both have the same internet filters provided by our jobs.
They dont let us access youtube or social media sites for the most part.

U just jelly you gaise dont have any cool SoCal words of ur own.

Only NorCal natives can properly pull of hella. Everyone else jus' posin.

Oh yeah, S.F. > L.A. :hiding:

San Francisco is barely NorCal.
What about the CenCal peeps?
But I do like SF better than LA.

Just as I view L.A. as the central hub of Socal, S.F. is the same for NorCal, regardless of geography. While still the same state, I think the 2 have very different mindsets too. (Still alot in common too)

And no one cares about Cencal. When I think CenCal, I think Bakersfield and meth.

And Cancal just sounds hella stupid anyways.

:D

Didn't you get the memo? All the Meth peeps moved to Oregon.

CenCal is a nul time zone. You can, and likely will, hear such gems as "groovey", dope, bitchin' ( I kid you not... ), Y'all ( we are the wild wild west after all... yes, quite right, moving on ) I've got some folks to use "bend your ear for a tick" I shamelessly lifted from a Kiwi friend of mine seemingly eons ago. Sick, tight *sigh * hella... the list is ever growing but none ever escape.
