I have ran my mesa mini rectifier into my swr 6x10. It made a great bass amp. The distortion lacked low end but the clean had plenty of low end. What are you going for here? Are you going for that lemmy distortion or just a clean tube amp?

You are right my mesa when i used it i turned the treble way down like to 1.5 or 2. And the bass up.
I would recommend trying to track down a Carvin X100B tube head and pairing it with a bass cab. They can usually be had for $300-350 used. Sounds great, relatively loud at 100watts BUT it is switchable to 50watts and 25watts via a simple little slider switch on the back. So at 25watts through a decent 1x15 or 2x10 it is great for little venues. I toured as bassist for a progressive bluegrass trio last year. Just me, guitar, banjo, and our harmonies over the top. We played a few small listening rooms and radio shows where I just ran the Carvin at 25watts. Pretty perfect for that purpose. Then for the bigger gigs and festivals, I'd run it at 100watts or use my Peavey VB-2.
Absolutely! I have two Traynor tube amps: a YBA-1 and a YSR-1. Both are 55 watt EL-34 duets. Both are great for guitar through a guitar speaker. Both are great for bass through a bass speaker.
The YBA-1 has three band tone stack plus presence control, while the YSR-1 has treble/bass tone stack plus reverb and tremolo. So it's a matter of whether I want the reverb and/or tremolo or more versatile tone settings, especially for bass.
Oh, and the YBA-1 is essentially borrowed from the old 5F6A Bassman, so no wonder it's great.

I know a bunch of people who use fender super twins through bass cabs for bass. They are intended as a guitar amp but are much better for bass, but they aren't really in your 40-50 watt range.
Yes. The YBA-1 is not the only well-known variant of the '59 Bassman. The JTM-45 is a well-known Marshall amp and his first guitar amp. Marshall put a higher gain 12AX7 up front, and tweaked the eq and feedback a bit to suit guitar tone, while the YBA is still quite suited to bass tone.
One thing I love about both Traynors is having both a flat bass input and a treble boost "guitar" input, each with a volume and the option to dial in a mixture of both. Lots of different tones and you can still hardly make a bad sound with it.
