Guitar > Bass?

*bruised ego alert*

I can't believe you guys sometimes! Everytime something comes along to degrade the status of the bass, there has to be a thread about it. It's electric, it has strings, most 12-15 year olds (who usually buy that crap) don't know what a bass is! I didn't when I decided I wanted to play "guitar."

Supply and demand! Guitarists are more abundant. Why doesn't bass player magazine have "and guitar" under the title?

Because many bass players in popular music suck and wanted to be guitar players in the first place.

The better bass players get, the more attention we will get.

Then again, if you (general you, not direct at Kronos) think getting attention goes against being a bass player, then stop whining.

Don't you guys find it at least a little bit cool to be "underground?" By that I mean, try being an innnovator on the guitar... it's all been done! The bass has so much potential, and can be used in so many roles. The media doesn't respect you... but these are the people that tell you the All American Rejects have their fingers on the pulse of rock and roll! Be bassists and shut the **** up!

Blasphemy! A bass is supposed to groove, nothing more. What? You play Country? Metal? Frickin' Moonlight Sonata? You're not a real bass player.

are you saying that bass must be a supporting instrument? I agree that in a band situation, the bass should be a groove for most of the time, but it is supposed to be more, otherwise it wouldnt be strung with a D and a G...

moreover, bass isnt supposed to be anything, it's up for interpretation. Otherwise, music in general would be absolutely aweful and bland.

Ladies - I used to play guitar

let me tell you this. speaking as an overdrive junkie who was always searching for the ultimate crunchy power chunk tone

I played guitar for nearly 10 years and never found it


I play bass for two and not only find a completely different musical mind (one that can say F*** YOU and Come hither in the same sentence)

But I found the most magnificent power metal chunk ever.

Any bass player that whines about why guitarists get all the attention needs to simpy pick up a guitar and see who much attention you get then.

it has everything to do with attitude and NOTHING to do what instrument you are playing.

AND lets all be honest here - mass media loves frontmen - when a front man wants to play an instrument they usually pick up a guitar - very few people can front a band and play the bass - when compared to the guitar playing multitudes. that's a fact. thus more people playing guitar get media exposure.

I love being underground - give me Fugazi and the Stooges any day over U2 and Bon Jovi - garbage.

bollocks, go round to your friends, i bet more have heard of kurt cobain and jimi hendrix than jao pasorium or victor wooten. in fat i betcha 90% of people will go who? to the last ones.

well, cause theyre the frontman of their band. if kurt cobain played bass and sang while krist novoselic played guitar, cobain would still be the popular one.

rockstar attitude/looks help too, nikki sixx and tommy lee more popular than vince neil and mick mars. flea is arguably more popular than frusciante etc.

most people who dont play an instrument prolly dont even a thing called bass existed neways loL
