Guitar Center does me good. (sarcasm)

I'm kinda with Joe on this. My guess is that they do tons of volume so mistakes do happen... I live about the same distance to a GC as OP but it's not GC fault I live that far out and don't expect them to drive out and pick anything up.

I understand why it would be frustrating and disappointing but they'd have to do much worse then that for them (Or any business) so lose my business.

I know mistakes happen, but whoever shipped the non-factory-fresh amp knew exactly what he or she was doing - getting something off the floor that no one would buy in person. Sorry, I'm with the OP on this one, and I usually join the pack on whiners.

Yeah, that place is what it is. Anytime you have something shipped these days, no matter the vendor, it gets handled by many 30 watt bulbs before it lands, (no.. really..), lands at your doorstep. If your box can be tossed, it will be tossed. Then it comes down to what type of packing has been afforded to your purchase. I once ordered a VT pedal and a SKB style case only to find that the pedal was chucked into the same large box that the bass case came in. It looked beat to hell. No additional packaging or anything. It was fixed, but it made me think twice about doing future business with the same company.

The best way to show your approval or disapproval is with your hard earned dollars. I learned what big box retailers do to small businesses in the early nineties. My parents office supply and printing business was swallowed up by about three large box stores. So now, when it is time to spend some of my money, it mostly goes to a local store. Even if I have to pay a little more, I feel better in the long run.

There is always someone larger that is earning more business and getting further away from being a Music Store. The sharp math that drives entities like Amazon is becoming the modus operandi in a land of desperate economic hardball. Who remembers that Ampeg Heritage 810 cab on sale for $777.00 this last Thanksgiving? I do! I don't even need something that big, but it sure made me think I did. LOL. Even the mighty GC can't always compete with that.

HST said, "They know the price of everything, and the value of nothing." To me, I find value in my local stores. I understand that is not an option for all of us. Some people depend wholly on mail order to get the things they want. I don't judge anyone for shopping where they want to shop. It is everyone's choice to spend money where they see fit.

I am glad you got your issue squared away, even if it was a bit of a hassle.

If you order a new product and are sent a repacked floor model, by law the store has shipped a non-conforming good and is not entitled to be paid. They are entitled to retrieve the merchandise, at their expense, not yours. The fact that they are willing to exchange after they are caught does not make their action okay (if someone is caught stealing and then offers to give back what they stole, that offer does not make things okay). If they do this repeatedly, they may be engaging in a deceptive trade practice that should be reported to the Federal Trade Commission and, in many states, to the state-level equivalent agency or the state attorney general's office.

There is a big difference and a legal difference between offering incompetent service and sending someone who has bought a new item a used floor model item.

I was going to say something about ordering online and mis-communication and then I realized I don't care enough.

If anyone feels as if something shady has happened to them I would encourage them to exercise their rights to not shop there. I guess my only point (which is really irrelevant) is that, for me, it would take more then that for me not to do business with a company. But, I'm down with the OP being done with it. :)

As I mentioned in another thread, welcoming a noob, I believe, we all say we'll never shop at GC again. We lie.

For some reason, I feel like I'm in control when I go into a GC. They have the goods but I have the money and none of it is leaving my pocket until I think everything is hunky-dory. If I later find out that all was not hunky-dory, I just get it fixed. So many posters testify like victims of that place. You're the customer. You rule.

I have four really nice stores in the Louisville area I can take my business to. None of them would be so dumb as to try to fob off a used piece of junk when I paid new.

I don't know about the shipping policies but I have had some good dealings with GC Louisville. I had sworn off ever going in one several years ago. I was in a GC in Pennsylvania shopping for a used PA system. I was ready to buy that day, cash in hand. I walked into the PA room and there were 2 guys behind the counter there. I spent a good ten minutes looking at the used PA selection which was pretty good while they ignored me, the only customer in the room. Not knowing too much about PA's I called my brother to get some advice. I was standing directly in front of the wall of speakers talking to my brother and suddenly the speakers blare on super high volume right in my face. I walk outside and finish my call and then go back in and they did it again. Two kids behind the counter with little smirks on their faces. I just walked out and vowed to never return.

Only reason I went to GC Louisville was it is a few miles from my house and I wanted a Stingray. They had 4 same model and I played them all and bought the best one. Got good service and great price. Have bought a few small items there since then but I still prefer to support the smaller retailers. If you go ask for Steve, nice kid.

Ah, another day, another "I hate GC" thread.

When is school back in?????

Sorry I can't help you with when you go back to school. I am a bit old for middle/Jr high school. I am going to a one day class on poultry husbandtry and regulations. You are welcome to join me on 27 July in San Marcos TX.

For the rest of you who think cheap = broke/used stick with your working girl and I will continue too cherish my wife.

For those whom think I lie when I say good bye(not buy) to GC ask my ex- wife about my integrity when you see her. I have not see her since the divorce. We had a son FYI and he is doing great.

I am glad to see that there is some support for doing the right thing and the rest of you can be next on the cheap prostitute.

No disrespect to any person of the female gender intended. I apologize for any transgression I may of perpetuated on all women. Please forgive me.

At least we know what we are getting into when we support the worlds oldest profession.

Given the additional details I now understand.

I would be pissed.

But there's also no possible way I would drive the 45 miles both ways when they're the ones who screwed up. What if you didn't have a car? Then they would have said "tough luck?"

Still think there's a small part of this story missing, as I never heard of anything as ridiculous as them telling YOU had to return it yourself. And if that is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth with no details left out - then there's no argument that they screwed you. And I would have sent them a much more detailed and angry letter.

I don't understand some of the logic around here. If I buy a cheap product at a cheap price, well that's all on me. However if I shop around and find the best price on a product - and purchase it - am I suppose to just accept whatever is thrown my way...

Well said my friend. Would you like to share a Dos Equis?

Yep really is the truth.
I started communicating with GC customer dis-service as soon as I opened the "box".. The msg I posted was the 7th, my 4th and last, back and forth communication. The 6th was the service rep instructing me to go to "closest" GC for return. Prior to those, I had stated I wanted an exchange for the NIB item that I had originally ordered. I can assume that they never checked the distance to the nearest "retailer". Although they had my address. I can also assume that if they do respond it will be with a bribe(coupon, rebate, etc). I am still not dating my EX-____ no matter what she wants.

For what it is worth. I have a very fuel efficient car that has room for the combo amp( would never take my beater 11mpg farm truck into Austin unless I need a load of ?.) I had the time and other stops I could make in Austin. So I elected to do as instructed. This was after I had asked for a return shipping label and truck dispatch to my house for return of amp.

Don't mind Guy, he's a bit of a smartass, but he doesn't mean any harm. Try not to take it personally, it's just that a lot of GC bashing threads pop up over trivial things, people complaining that they didn't have some obscure 11 string bass and whatnot. You've got a legitimate complaint, I'd be mad too.

Bad sh#@ and mistake's can happen with ANY store.

My opinion, I love the GC here in Las Vegas (Summerlin location) they do me great deals and always help 110% if there is ever a problem,,, the staff is the coolest and they are always knowlegable.

MF (owned by GC) and Sweetwater have also been great,,,, if there is ever a screw-up its aways been taken care of by all of the stores I deal with.

If GC or MF or Sweetwater were screwing up all the time then yea, they would deserve bad feedback,,, but such is not the case.

Anyhow,, just showing some well deserved love for GC.

Cheers
