Guitar Center dumping Mesa or new models?

I think MSRP was higher, and $1099 was the selling price. Our local GC has the same 2 cabs, and they're clearly marked down from what the selling price was.

I'd be on the fence except that I purchased the same cab from a local store about a year ago and had compared to guitar center at the time. $879 was definitely the sticker price and has been continually ever since.

So I stopped by a local Guitar Center yesterday. Didn't buy anything by the way, and the place is a bit depressing - but that's not my point.

I checked into the Mesa cabinets they had in stock. They still had the 2x12 and 4x10 that have been sitting there for a while.

I was interested to see their clearance price tags. This is just an example so if I don't get the numbers exactly right the point still stands.

The 2x12 was listed as "$829 was $1099"

I have a problem with that. $1099 was MSRP, but the product NEVER carried that sticker price at GC. The actual previous price WAS $879. I think that representing the MSRP as a previous selling price is very deceptive so long as that price never WAS.

Do you agree? Is this total douche-baggerey or am I just retentive? False dichotomy? Both could be true I guess,
...

I'm guessing the tag was on the wrong cab. The 2x12 is normally 899, the 4x10 is the one that is 1099 as far as pricing goes. I've seen the 2x12 on clearance for 679, can't remember what the clearance is for the 4x10.

No, you are right, and GC's problem are partially rooted in behavior like that.

That BS around MSRP and marked price is a key factor in customer expecting to be able to haggle even more. No surprise there, except for the guys with the ties.

This is why we don't prescribe to the nebulous game of retail pricing, meaning applying an over-inflated "suggested retail price" with the intent of giving our shared customers the false impression that they are getting some sort of "individually" special deal that is dependent upon negotiating or special timing. We feel that such pricing games are inappropriate and degrading to the integrity of our product, as well as demeaning to our customers' intelligence!

True, but by now, we're all so used to it that we're immune to it and it's lost any effectiveness it might used to have.

I love consistency! Thank you! :smug:

i've always had a problem with mesa boogie. there stuff is not readily available for purchase at your local guitar center or mars when it was around. those were the two main places people go to buy instruments and amps and so forth. it's like the walmart of the music world if that makes any sense. lol

mom and pop local music shops never have good equipment. at least where i live. it's always the cheap stuff. if they do it's priced really high. the other day i saw a used ampeg 8x10 cab and they wanted $1399 for it!!! really??? they are $999 brand new. that's ripping people off. that's why i hate mom and pop stores. they charge too much for things.

i've never seen any mesa equipment at guitar center in alabama or georgia. maybe i just went at the wrong times? i dunno. i did buy a mesa boogie bass 400+ one time but i had to go way out of town to get it. like 2hrs away. i played it for about 5 years and then sold it. i like the ampeg svt-cl better. it's just easier to use. less mess to dial in your sound. i'm ready to get rid of it too and get an orange ad200b mk3. it's even easier to use. getting tired of american crap. going all british. lol

nah jk they are all good amps. i do like the orange alot though. can't find it anywhere either go figure.

that's why most people buy an ampeg tube amp. you can find them anywhere. you don't have to go searching or order online from across the country. you just go to the store and play it, like it, and buy it. simple

then mesa quit making the tube bass amp? what for? i heard they are coming out with a new one? it better be good. lol

I used Sweetwater for my last Mesa purchase. Great customer service. I think Sweetwater is a much better fit for Mesa when it comes to larger online dealers. They both go out of their way to take care of the customer. If you don't like the cab/amp you ordered, you can just send it back. You just pay shipping.

yeah bailey brothers is where i bought my amp when i did. it's just far away from where i live. alabama is way bigger than 2 cities. most states are. rofl

i think there's only 2-3 guitar centers in alabama too. it really sucks man. i mean dang i live 3hrs from nashville. you would think there would be more music stores around in such a musical part of the country. it seems like everything is made out in california for some reason. cali is as far away as china is from here almost. lol

it just gets annoying having to spend a whole day to go try out or buy musical equipment. would be nice if you could just go down the street to a place that was 30min or closer to your house. i lived in atlanta before. it's not worth it just to have a local guitar center close to your house. lol i hate traffic. i'd hate to see new york or LA.

Some may be closer to you than you think!
I live in a smallish, but growing town 30 minutes west of Ft. Worth, TX. I am lucky enough to work at an M&P music store that is much larger than most folks out here in the D/FW metroplex think...I get to walk in to a shop with one of the largest, and most diverse Mesa Boogie stocks in north Texas, every morning!
The city folk who just happen upon us are amazed, because they might have been driving by the building for years, but never stopped to look.
The dealers...other than GC...are out there!

I really like how active Mesa Boogie is being on these boards. Agree with their methods or like their products or not...this is above and beyond customer service. Hanging out in online forums, explaining the reason behind their policies...just awesome!

And not to mention my M9 is the best sounding bass amp I've ever heard...I'm glad to be with this company. Sure hope I can get known enough to snag an endorsement deal someday!:bassist:

Of course of those three only one is made in the US. The other two are made in China or Vietnam.
I prefer to buy the amps that are putting money back into the local economy. But then I live 50 miles from Mesa.

Excuse me, but Ampeg has an SVT and B-15 that are every bit as US built as any other amp out there.

To be fair the post he was responding to didn't mention the heritage svt, but it did mention the svt classic. Also the post he was responding to made no mention of the b-15.

I think he was correct in his response to the amps mentioned.

I wish so bad I could tear this statement apart, but I cannot. :( I live in a suburb about 25 miles north of Tampa, and ALL of the local music stores are simply garbage. :-/ As you stated, they have a tiny selection of crappy gear, and they want too damn much money for what they've got. And where I'm at, it seems like the trend is for music shopkeepers to be hostile as f***, because I've NEVER felt even remotely welcome in any of these places. I know it's really sad to say, but my local GC is the best music store I've found. Yes, their selection of bass gear is still weak, but at least they have real, actual amps! At least I'm not being told "take it or leave it" when I see a 15 year old Fender Rumble 100 being sold for $380, and then being told "if you're going to loiter, would you show yourself the door?"...Like it or hate it(I hate it), there IS a reason people put up with Guitar Center.
