True on the above but the bottom line is that they could have easily given me a ball park quote over the phone knowing I offered to send high quality photos and the working condition of my cab! If he would have said no more than an x amount I would have made a decision to load it or not before going shop! And that is why I started this post! This wasn't meant to cut down all employees or all stores but to make others aware of my experience. It's to know if the sales reps are told to conduct themselves that way? JS

Wow! I can't believe how you feel entitled for GC to do more than company policy in handling 2nd hand items. The reason they won't quote you over the phone is the fact that items need to be looked at before a price can be set depending on age, condition, market value, resale value or customers attitude. The store isn't obligated to give you anything for your time effort or fuel usage to drive the equipment over for inspection. Because one huge factor. IF they quote you over the phone in some states they can be held liable if they don't give you that price when you arrive in person.

Do you buy cars over the phone from someone you don't know or ever had previous contact with, even with pictures? Would you? Why would you think GC would be willing to take your word on condition or usability of your equipment? Don't you test gear and guitars out before you buy them from GC? Did you go in expecting to be compensated for you time and trouble?
If you answer no to those questions there may be hope for you yet.

I don't understand attitudes and feelings of entitlement.

Sure enough but the fact is he could have saved me the hassle of loading my cab and unloading it 4 times with a simple quote over the pH. Pictures are worth a thousand words like they say. It is what it is but
lesson learned by someone else's ignorance.
You had the choice not to load up and go or to load up and go bro. It wasn't GC that held a gun to your head and made you do it. As you've been told many times in this thread they aren't quoting anyone over the phone and you still don't get it.

Honestly, it doesn't look like any lesson was learned. You still maintain that they should have given you your price simply because it's "cool gear" and because you drove so far. If you really wanted to help yourself in the future, the lesson you should have learned is that doing a mere five minutes worth of homework would have told you everything you needed to know in order to negotiate the best deal for yourself - and also that "best deal" does NOT mean getting you what you want. The "best deal" is getting a deal that's as favorable to you as possible given the market.

Price has nothing to do with what how cool the gear is, how much inconvenience you went through to bring your gear to them, what it cost new, or the advanced aircraft production techniques that went into making it. It's based solely on what the market will bear and what GC can afford to offer you based on what their costs are. That's not GC out to screw you with some kind of scam/scheme. It Business 101, plain and simple.

It wasn't a entitlement bud! An estimate only, not written in stone! Only the most they would pay for equipment in top shape. And it's an actual fact they use pictures from eBay to determine there market value.
And actually, I brought other equipment! I told the salesman it was still in my van! He asked me what I had? I told him I had a used 2018 Burgera BXD 15 combo I wanted to know what he can offer?. Funny he gave me a $150 quote without looking at it. Go figure! But he claimed he could not give me a estimated quote over the phone for another bass cab! Bull poopie all the way around! He could have gave me a estimated quote over the phone for the most they could have paid with the pics and word of a current customer.

Because they want to sucker customers into the store thinking they will take there low ball offer instead of loading it back up! I am only sharing my experience to help other people from making the same mistake I did waisting my time with amatures. I've been in and out of different music stores since 1981. I'm not an
amature! I could clearly see I had more experience than the salesman and his assistant that didn't have the common sense to check the battery in the bass before telling me the speakers were blown in my cab!
Again! A freaking scheme to low ball customers!.

Rabidhamster hit it right on the nail. If your going to negotiate with GC or any other Music Store for that matter that takes trades-do your homework 1st!! Know what other exact matches have “Sold for” as it’s been noted on here, not what someone asked for on price or the price was a matter of hearsay, instead of documentable online. Then keep your negation relavent to the exact item your trying to trade, not other makes or models. I’ve had experiences go both ways at GC and unfortunately, it does depend a great deal on the customer rep. themselves at GC. There are some good experienced ones and there are bad inexperienced ones. If I’ve done my homework and had exact concrete, provabale, comparables to negotiate with, I have had GC increase their offers, not by a lot, but generally $50 wasn’t a problem with higher ticket items. Another good tactic to do to negate getting the bad sales reps or any rep for that matter is ask to talk to store manager. They will be reluctant to do so because they say they only allow sales reps as go betweens with trade negotiations, but that’s only because 9 time’s out of 10 they have not gotten the store managers input and/or don’t like having SM override them (pride thing). Stay fast & determined you want to speak to them and then in a quick and efficient way-state your case to them, again with bonafied examples why you want your price. I’ve had store managers intervene and up offers by as much as $100. Another thing as already stated on here is they tend to go a lot by examples of what lowest comparable sold for recently online. Get proactive and make them dig up info on what condition or state of operation their lowest comparable was in and point out particularly if it was on E-bay it may not be even close to yours. I did that with 1 GC rep who was lowballing my trade with latest sold comparable and after further research on it, the comparable was a “Parts only” sale. Bottom line—be prepared before you go in there. And as added note: if your having really bad GC sales rep or store experience, go to another GC store if it’s in drivable distance. I’ve had that pay off big time for extra drive and dealing with new store!

For those looking for a condensed version of the thread:

- Posters explain to OP the basic concepts of business, capitalism, and commerce that are the bedrock upon which an economy is based.

- OP refutes these statements, and insists that these accepted standards should not apply to him because he RAWKS, isn't a girl, and has the Holy Grail of the Mesa Boogie line from a decade ago as trade bait.

Lather, rinse, repeat, ad infinitum. May the circle be unbroken!

Are you weak? I'm not a wussy! You can't handle a industrial professional cab. My girl friend has no problem! Brain washed and lazy!

And with that I think we’re done here.

The quote you were responding to wasn’t wrong. Old and heavy cabs are increasingly harder to move.

This one’s a feeebie. Next time there will be infractions and posts deleted.
