Guitar Center Stage Fright!!!

I go in sauced my teeth are practically floating in alcohol and I just play Idc if anyone is looking or tells me I screwed up cause I just breathe on them they understand at that point.

I heard this is how Fender is going to start making their road worn instruments.. unleashing drunks into a guitar center.
A GC story. Since I am 63 with going on 45 years of experience, seemingly, nothing really bothers me anymore.
At a GC outside of Boston I picked a Pedulla (?) hanging on the wall, plugged in and faced the wall, isolated myself mentally and played for 30 to 40 min. (?). I got bored and put the bass down and got up to leave and there were 6 or 7 people sitting behind me just listening and they then proceeded to congratulate me on how well I played. Go figure. I guess i just felt good that day. Hasn't happened again and I don't suppose that it will. Bass god for a half-hour!!! Ha-ha........

ever noticed how other people in the shop will put down the guitars their looking at to give you there full attention its kinda like "oh wait a sec let me just put this down while i watch this bloke fail"
i dunno what it is about demo's but everyone wants to watch you to make you feel more uncomfy than you already are playing out of your comfort zone on a bass you've never played before with a violin action in a strange enviroment
havin said that i was once trying a bass out at the same time a bloke accross the shop was trying a guitar and we ended up havin a full on jam it was awesome!!

From what I've seen of Fenders hanging at GC, I think they've already started this new program.
I stopped by GC and couldn't find the stage. Where do they keep it and whats so scary about it?
usually i play YYZ, Leave That Thing Alone, or Day Tripper. i also usually go into the guitar section and play on the guitar amps because none of the bass amps have effects. one time i did that some guy (who im pretty sure was stoned) kept staring at me until i left. kinda creeped me out.
It happens when I try out a guitar, but never seems to happen when I try out a bass. Usually I listen to the wankers in guitardom and play along to them, especially if I know the song. Kills two birds with one stone. Otherwise, I carry a list of four or five bass lines I want to try out so I don't worry about it. I usually write the list on an old sales receipt and stuff it in my wallet.
in music shops i tend to run scales and techniques (hard/soft finger, slap a little, tap a bit, dig in etc...) songwise tom sawyer gets an airing, and whatever iv been playing as of late, (at the moment that is dream theater, blotted science and a touch of return to forever)i do freezew up sometimes i think most people do.
HAHAHAHA!!! GC Stage Fright!!! I know exactly what this is!!! Whenever i'm at home i feel like Les Claypool I get to Guitar Center and play like a dufus!
I get it, then I realize no one cares. However, I feel self-conscious about trying a pricier instrument when I sound like **** on it.
Found something worse than GC stage-fright.
Teach yourself to play bass (or at least attempt to,) base your playing on desire--not talent, go to a bass get-together with 8-10 bass players who were apparently born with the same desire AND actual talent.
Realize there is no way on this earth you should be there. "Wanna try this one?" (Fretboard still smoking from the shredding the questioner just laid down.)
"Uh, no thanks. I'm good." Go home and keep practicing. DAMHIK
