guitar distortion pedals on bass

The Joyo Ultimate Drive, American Sound, California Sound and Orange Juice are all great dirt pedals for bass even if they are made with intention for use on guitar and the last three mentioned are actually mend to be pre amps respectively attempting to emulate a Fender, Mesa Boogie and Orange amp.

Which pedal is the California Sound supposed to be? I owned one briefly, but it took a dump after one gig. My hope is the real thing has better quality control.

Not sure which Tech 21 pedal it is a clone of, but it is supposed to be a Mesa Bogie amp emulation, as I wrote.

Also I must admit I haven't tried any of the pedals myself, although I am planing to buy the California Sound and the Orange Juice soon.

My statement was based alone on what I have seen other people write about them, as there is very little audio documentation on these pedals used on bass.

I am buying California sound for a high gain distortion sound and the Orange Juice for a gnarly grindy overdrive/distortion sound, cause that is what I read they should be good for.

I use Joyo Ultimate Drive, and it seems to keep more low end than most pedals in the gear demos I've heard.

I bought a Boss OS-2 (overdrive/distortion) to use with my strat, but i found it gets some good sounds for bass too. Unfortunately you cant get any real deep tones out of it since it was designed for guitar, but it gets some great sounds, really funky overdrive (when I want to give the tubes a rest ) and some good grindy distortion.

You can always use pedals designed for guitar with bass, but some dont affect the low lows as much as you would want for a bass effect. I really need to try myself out an English Muff'n...

I have an SD-1; I use a SansAmp to split the signal so I have a mix of natural(ish) and effects.

I think you'll like the California Sound. It was really easy to dial in a good tone. These Joyo pedals get a lot of love here. I must have just gotten a dud.
