Instruments are not easy or difficult to play -- it's the music that's easy or difficult.
Piano, for instance, is MUCH easier to play than bass -- if all you're trying to play on it is the bass line to "Mony Mony." If you're trying to play a Rachmaninoff concerto, by the way, that's also easier to play on the piano than on the bass. My point is that the reason people think the bass is an "easy" instrument is not that the INSTRUMENT is easy, but that the music WRITTEN for the instrument is all too often easy. If anyone wants to change the stereotype, then make a habit of playing more complex music.
