The dimensions of the Marshall were arrived at by calculating how large a cab they could build using a 5x5 foot sheet of plywood (the standard for Baltic Birch) with minimum waste material. There probably sill is on the Ted Weber site a discussion of the design decisions that went into the "original" 412 closed back guitar cab made famous by Marshall. Ted's research came up with nothing. They probably just built a cab that would hold the speakers, without any real thought as to how to tune the cab.
