Guitar player looking to get into Bass.

You probably know already, but if the store's Guitar Center, I always ask if they have a discount promo currently taking place. In all cases (or through sheer dumb luck), there was always one going on and saved me some money.

It's a mom & pop shop I've been going to for years. I do get free setups when I buy guitars from them. I just pay for strings. And I've always had great service from them when needed.
The G&L was the tribute model, not USA.

I love those places and would rather support the local stores but where I live, it's not possible- the one music store in my town, the guy's pretty nasty.

I play both, started on bass-- but I started on bass about 2 1/2 years after I started guitar.

the main thing I would say as to bass & bass amp is to decide how much you can spend and then go play basses & amps--and buy what cries out to you to own--that is within your budget.

I decided about 10 yrs ago to have a go at playing bass. I'd always had a cheap one hanging around the house but never played it with any degree of seriousness. I went in at the deep end and bought a pro bass. I did that based on my experience as a guitarist. I have spent lots over the years on guitars to get to an instrument that I felt was a keeper, and doing that spent more on the way up than I paid for the guitar I now love. So I decided not to do that with the bass. I did a lot of searching to find a bass I thought would give me the kind of sounds I wanted to play and just bought that. I haven't looked back. I do more gigs now on bass than guitar. But I still keep my hand in on guitar. It's a great move especially if you get to play some of the music that inspired your move towards bass.

Believe me, i was thinking the same thing last night about just getting a better instrument the first time around. I think most of us have been down that road many time. I'm now leaning towards that G&L. I'll play it again and see what happens. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Nothing wrong with playing both-I enjoy both.

Update...pulled the trigger on the G&L Tribute JB-2. $399 with a pretty decent RoadRunner gig bag. Brought it home, tuned it up, played it for a bit and adjusted the truss rod and a couple saddles. Plays pretty good right now. So with that said, I guess I can put this thread to bed and start posting in the other sub-forums. Haven't even put a pick on it yet, just plucking away, but I'll probably sign up for a hand full of lessons so I don't develop some bad habits right off the start. The shop has a guy they spoke highly of, plays all styles, very patient, awesome dude they said. Thanks everyone for putting in your 2 cents. I think this is going to be fun.
