Guitar players corner!

Got a Yamaha fg9

Someone asked me a while ago what was the most unusual guitar that I've ever owned.

Meet a circa 1979 Ovation 1291 UK II where UK stands for Ultra Kaman. The body is Urelite foam over an aluminium frame, no wood at all. Mahagony neck with an ebony board. Exceptionally hot pickups. Weird bridge that adjusts from the back of the guitar...

Mine is a relatively early example, later ones sported different inlays as well as the bridge.

Another well-crafted and great-sounding - at least to my ears - instrument that sold beyond poorly.

I've got to bring this lovable weirdo bird back from the studio...

My 1974 Gibson SG. Original with the exception of the bridge pickup. The original case is still in pretty good condition. It doesn’t leave the house anymore.

Lovely. Enjoy that old girl !

This is a late '72 SG Special that I owned for a while, eventually letting it go to a very dear friend of mine back in 2024...

Over the past few weeks I've been working on some new material and got this one out of the case for the first time after several months...

You're looking at a 1982 Ovation 1669 Custom Legend, from the first year when the cutaway was introduced on these guitars. Sounds like heaven and is a joy to record - if you like the general flavour of the Ovation sound to begin with - but tends to be moody as hell when it comes to weather/humidity fluctuations.

I've always had a weak spot for the Ovation brand, and this one is definitely a keeper.

Absolutely! My twelve string's neck decided to become a banana in the lead up to a musical some years back! Nearest luthier was 2000miles away. It had to make way for my Maton which I still have.

Luckily, the necks on my Yamamotos should never end up like that. These aren't the necks on mine but note the CF rods.
