Guitar players corner!

I finally pulled the trigger on a G&L USA Legacy HSS, which was intended to replace my 2015 Comanche. It was built to order, with Silver Metallic finish, alder body, rosewood fretboard (which is darker than it looks in the photo), matching painted headstock, Graphtech nut, and, most importantly for me, a 12" radius fretboard. I'm glad I ordered before G&L's 2022 price increase, and it arrived in a surprisingly quick four months. It's perfectly built, and I love the playability with the 12" radius fretboard, which is a major reason I ordered it.

Tone was the other. The Comanche is fantastic, but I missed the more traditional Strat neck pickup tone, and I wanted a bridge humbucker again, which I lost when I sold an HH hardtail Strat. This addresses both issues, and so far I'm very happy with it. The humbucker sounds pretty dark to my ears--but that's probably because I've been playing the Comanche and my SSS Strat exclusively for awhile. It does sound good though, and the passive bass cut can easily make it seem brighter. When split, it produces a surprisingly good bridge single coil tone.

Now that I have this HSS, I'm realizing it's different enough from the Comanche that I might want to keep both until I absolutely need to downsize, but it's very difficult for me to justify three electric guitars.

I'm hoping to bring this out to a jam session soon.

Oh! Excuse me. Did I do that out loud? :bag:

Well, in my defense, I played 6-string (and kept on playin' 'em) several years before taking up bass. Is double digits of both so wrong?!? YMMV

Ha! For me, it's purely a matter of space in our townhouse in downtown Philly--more of which needs to be reserved for basses! They spilled out of the gear closet years ago, much to my wife's ongoing irritation, and they outnumber electric guitars four to three.

As for the guitars, even though I prefer my new Legacy HSS to my Comanche, I suspect the Comanche might work better in a band. The pickups are more evenly matched for output, and they're entirely hum-canceling, both of which would be great on stage. Almost every time I hear a song with a cool electric guitar tone, I realize I could at least get close with the Comanche. It's just so versatile. I don't expect to play guitar in a band, but it's almost happened twice in recent years so who knows.

Counting acoustics and stringed instruments, other than guitars, basses are still outnumbered in my 700 sq. ft. country home. And there are quite a few basses, including two uprights. Lord knows what Jeannie keeps in that Bottle. But hey, I do music stuff. And it ain't like I gotta' feed or send them to college.

Oh wow.
What's the 6ers top wood?

Couldn't afford one anyway :D
Paulownia. Cocobolo b&s (plus a few other kinds of woods in the guitar). The MS12 is German spruce top, Macassar ebony b&s (plus a few other kinds of woods in the guitar).

Tsuneyuki (Tony) retired a couple of years ago and is back in Japan, so as to affording one, you can only buy a Yamamoto used, anymore. Not sure if this all means they may cost less or more, now!

I bought the MS12 secondhand at Schoenberg Guitars. A year later I talked with Tony and bought the VS12 new from him.

I'd like to replace the stock hardtail bridge on my Robert Cray Signature Strat with a better one...

I did some looking around... settled on this Kluson replacement. I'll post an update after it's installed.

They make a nice looking Telecaster bridge too.

I'm shaping a new 'firestripe' pickguard for my Blues King this afternoon... the old one is rolling up...

I think it turned out okay. I didn't particularly dislike the yellow-brown firestripe, but the red tortoloid suits the guitar better aesthetically I think. I took a lot of time shaping, fitting to the radius of the rosette rings, and bevelling the edges, and finally preparing the top for adhesion. It ain't a small job.

Finally, I had a little bit of back porch time with the Blues King this morning.
