Guitar players corner!

NGD! Thrift store score for 40 bucks!

Made in China Peavey, single pickup twang and crunch machine. Pretty filthy, but has a decent neck and everything works!

cleaned up real nice:

Does anyone feel your neck preferences on guitars and basses are similar? Or, do you feel more flexible because you double instruments?

I’ve long been a “J neck guy” on bass; but I’m playing so much guitar lately the J neck feels thin. Out of all my guitars, I prefer the widest/thickest neck.

I’m wondering if preferences are shifting, or if I’m just becoming more adaptable. I’m not at all uncomfortable on my J neck, but picking up P basses in stores lately feels really comfy. I’m considering a P neck, but it’s probably just GAS! :roflmao:

Why the sound port? I’m curious.
For me, the sound port helps in hearing the upper mids better. This is a very full-sounding 12-string guitar (It pretty much lives 24/7 in DADGAD), so with my hearing issues it makes a difference.

Agreed! I would dearly love that! It's a pity I am unlikely to be able to afford one.
I could barely afford to buy it at the time (used, from Schoenberg Guitars when I visited there in '15), but I don't regret doing so. A year later I bought the Talus VS-12, new, from Tony, another wonderful instrument.

On bass I prefer narrow necks--as indicated by me owning an Ibanez Soundgear.
Guitar--as long as it's not a V neck-(same for bass--no V necks)-I'll probably like it, although I'm not a fan of shredder necks.
I tend to prefer a chunky neck--but it's not a requirement.

I started on a SR so I’ve always felt that profile is burnt into my subconscious.

My oldest acoustic, a seagull, has a bit of a V neck and a 1.83” nut. I love that guitar, but don’t do much more than strum and sing with that guy so the profile and width don’t make much difference

because of how I position my fretting hand (It does move at times, depending on what I am playing, but in general) a V neck is very uncomfortable, and I can't anchor my thumb properly.

Yes, I do think my bass and guitar neck preferences are similar. I play G&Ls and Fenders, and generally prefer their necks with C rear profiles. I've tried other rear profiles from other brands that felt good, but C typically works. I also like nicely rounded fretboard edges on basses and guitars, and prefer 12" radius fretboards too. In fact, I recently bought a new G&L Legacy HSS largely to get a guitar with a 12" radius fretboard, like three of my four basses.

I'm also a "J neck guy" on bass, but I don't have any issues going from my guitars with slightly wider necks to my basses. It feels a little funny for a few seconds, but that's it. Plus, I think I'd be fine with a slightly wider nut width on a four-string bass if it had a 12" (or flatter) radius fretboard. I've considered ordering a G&L LB-100 with a 1 5/8" nut width and 12" radius, which I think would feel great.
