Guitar Preamp on Bass

Would an onboard acoustic guitar preamp (you know the kind with a tuner) work on an acoustic bass? Would it be like playing bass through a guitar amp? (In the sense that you can't play as loud as normal). Lastly, are there any other issues I haven't thought of that could come up?

Theres two possible issues. First is the acoustic guitars preamp may have very poor performance for low bass. Second the tine controls especially for bass are prob vey poor choices for useful bass guitar tone shaping. The tuner in the preamp may also have poor performance reading the lower freq's of bass. The overall sound could also be with a nonmusical distortion due to preamp input not being able to handle the higher input of bass pups.

I have used a bass preamp in guitar to good effect. Its treble center freq being high enough to be useful for guitar (choose preamp with 5.2k or higher center freq. Bass preamps lower center freq can be useful to esp compared to guitar preamps that have bass center freq in the 250 some hz range that gives unpleasant portable boombox type bass bost.

Unless its an expensive acoustic guitar ($500 or higher) Id suspect the preamp was pretty cheap and thus not suitable for handling lower freqs of bass and hotter signal of bass.
