Guitar Pro appreciation thread

I think this is a really good tool to learn new tabs. I also force myself to learn by reading the standard notation (as you can turn off the tabs).

I'd like to here your stories, as well as knowing what you'd like to see improved regarding the functionalities of this piece of software, as far as bass playing is concerned.

Do you use it for other instruments?
Do you use it to note your own music?

The best thing about Guitar Pro is the availability of tunes. There are
literally tens of thousands of tunes available. You just can't beat this.

What I don't like about GP is how it switches from page to page.
As it approaches the end of the page, you can't see the notes that
are coming in the next bar no matter what. The first note of the next
page is playing before you even see what it is.

Apple's GarageBand and Logic, on the other hand, can scroll the score so
you can always see what is coming. GP should do something like this.

I use it all the time for learning songs fast, especially the ones where I can't really hear the bassline. I just mute out all the other instruments and play along with it. I've also used it for figuring out how to rewrite oldies songs in the form of punk for a project I've been working on for a few months now. So that way when I have the right people for it I can give them the music and start practicing right away.

Another glitch I have seen is when you want to move a tied note up or down, the second note does not move and is tied to the previous note.

Mine does! But I remember it being the way you describe it. I don't know what I did to make it work.

It is tricky to delete the first note of a pair tied together. You need to untie it first, otherwise it will try to tie itself to some note earlier in the track.

Here is a problem that I have with ties and repeats with alternate endings.

Anyone find a solution to that?

GP is a great program. Especially for writing music, it's great to be able to arrange a whole song for a full band and listen to it without leaving your computer. Great for practicing, playing along with the accuracy of a computer really helped my internal metronome and made me more accurate.
