Guitar Slumming Question

Folks, I hate to do this to ya but I'm in a pickle.

I'm swinging the thudstick (thanks Chef) in a really swell blues band and just about every gig I have one of my bass playing buddies show up to set in for a spell. Well that's just fine and dandy but since we are a power trio it would be nice to swap out for guitar/harmonica (harmonica ALWAYS gets'em!) instead of a barstool and beer, but I don't want to lug around a complete second guitar rig (even a combo is a hassle) just for 3-4 songs!

So my question to you good folks is this: does anyone else around here occasionally slum on guitar, and has someone found a decent sounding processor (like a POD) that I can make do with plugging a Strat straight into the board?

Thanks in advance! An please don't peg me as a guitard, my heart and soul is in the bass clef!

One trio I play with the guitar player uses a Line6 XT Live direct into the board, no amp on stage.

I have a Line6 X3 Live board where I have several channels set up for going direct either to board or direct in on a bass amp. Both bands I use the X3 with have Peavey TNT130 in the rehearsal room. The X3 lets me be consistent with my sound for rehearsal and I don't have to pack an amp to practice.

I don't use the X3 on stage, prefer my own rig

One band I was in we had a rhythm guitarist/singer, keyboard player, me on bass, and drums. For the last few numbers I swapped to guitar and the keyboard player played the bass with his left hand through my bass amp. He could split his lower keyboard and have 2 outputs.

Like you I really didn't want to schlep round a whole guitar rig for a few numbers so I used a small multi-effects pedal (Zoom 1010, it was in the 90s) that I plugged into the PA. It had amp sim on it and sounded surprisingly good considering I detest most digital effects and multi-effects pedals in particular.

Our current second guitarist has a Line 6 combo amp (don't know the model, about 60W) that sounds way too over-processed to my ears. Probably ok for bedroom practice but no good whatsoever for gigging with.

Thanks to everybody who replied. Gonna take my notes from here and start researching!

I wouldn't even give this a second thought if it wasn't for the fact that Harmonica in a blues band just seems natural and we would get more street cred if we could throw it in from time to time.
