yeah, i'll take no monitor at all over the wrong mix or someone else's mix, even if i'm singing backups. i've kicked away and even unplugged my share of wedges too

That's the beauty of having full control of one's IEM mix via a digital console. No need to rely on crappy mixes (unless it's your own ) from anyone. It was well worth the investment we put into it. X32 Rack - split from house, or direct in.. into wireless IEM xmitters housed in same rack. Power up and go.. connect with iPad/Android device.. control your STEREO IEM mix.
No more crappy monitor mixes, poor wedges and too loud guitar !!

Unfortunately, most common weekend warrior bar bands can't afford digital mixers and IEM systems. No choice but deal with stage monitors and single maybe 2 aux feeds. On the gig I did, we were at the mercy of the house soundman.

Oh, I hear ya.. and had I still been in my old rock/variety band, I'd probably be in the same boat as the others posting on the topic.
But my current band (country) is pretty darn busy, so the expense was well worth it..

IEMs are still pricey, but that's no longer remotely true about digital boards. (my two bands both have all-IEM mixes and soundguys running digital mixers)

at this point, any bar/club soundguy who doesn't have a digital mixer with iphone monitor tweaking for the players is a holdout who will likely start not getting called back.
