Has anyone tried putting something in between the string and bridge slots (& nut slots) when putting on gut strings so that you don’t have to file them wider? I recall seeing a photo somewhere once on TB where this was done on the Bridge, but can’t find it.. This would be to avoid filing them wider for the thicker strings,, this if I wanted to go back to a thinner D.
Thinking it could also keep them a little higher to help with the steel/gut set up. Like a rounded piece of cork of, I remember the photo being a small metal piece with a u shape
They don't need to be deeper just wider, a narrow string works just fine in a wide slot as long as it is making good contact with the bottom of the slot.
