GWB205 - bypass question

Hi folks.

Got myself a gwb205, Gary Willis, tequila sunburst / bartolloni and i love it. Finish is great, neck and string spacing like it is built just for me. Joy to play.

But I noticed that bass is much louder when in bypass mode. Is this usual for this bass?

I read that it is on a more low output side from the preamp perspective - and that is obvious. But this with bypass was a bit strange for me.

Does the preamp have a trim pot on it? Many of the Bartolini preamps do (will be inside the control cavity). You can boost preamp output by turning it up.

Thanks for the tip! I will check it out. Maybe there are some manuals online too - i'll check that

I have this bass, can confirm there's a trim pot on the preamp. I think it even has a center detent.

Keep in mind that depending on what you plug it into, the signals can still be of different strength.
On my bass amp the preamp signal is a little louder and on my audio interface the passive signal is a little louder. this has to do with impedance, on which I am not an expert.

And thanks for the tip! So far i used it only with my amp - tonehammer 500+sl112. But i will try it in my audio interface - let you know how that went.

Hi folks!
Coming back to this topic after some time just to let you know that adjusting the gain on a preamp worked like a charm.
Also Gary wrote this long time ago - it may help others who stumble upon same issue

Btw. I stand corrected, it is definitely not a low output bass. As soon as i boosted the gain - it came to life. And i didn't even go all the way up
