HÖFNER 500/7 VERYTHIN CLUB!

I wanted to get a 500/7. They are a lot thinner than the President (500/5). I have one of the first maybe second run of the Presidents. It's a big body but it does make it sound more like an upright. Especially after fitting them with Pyramid flats. Maybe in the future I'll get a Verythin. Looks fun to play!
Zzounds.com and americanmusical.com both have the red on sale for $699 with case. I so want to do it.
I have never played one but have played the CT violin bass. Do these feel/sound much different? Same pups and neck, right?

That's a good deal! I have the sunburst and the newly issued red, and love them both!
I also have the CT Cavern violin bass, so I can easily compare the two...
IMHO, I prefer the Verythin hands down to the violin bass. Off the bat, you'll notice that it's much better balanced than the violin bass, and the neck seems a tad bit wider and not as thick as the violin bass, making it easier to play. I also find that the wider body makes it easier to play in that it gives me a natural place to put my right forearm. While I can't prove it, I think that the longer tailpiece on the latest Verythin run makes for better intonation down low. I had the shorter tailpiece on my sunburst, and it always seemed muddy down low, until I added the longer tailpiece, and "wa-la," mud be gone!
I LOVE the violin bass and it's history, but to me, the most beautiful bass I've ever seen is the Hofner Verythin! The headstock is gorgeous (I prefer the older bellflower over the new / old "torch"), the fingerboard striping is stunning, and the entire look and feel is amazing.
The only mods I made per my personal preference was to remove the white text on the truss rod cover, add Schaler strap-locks, and put T-J Jazz flat strings on her.
Beautiful basses, DWLANG! If I could get a burst like that I'd be all over it. But the newer bursts I've seen look more black to yellow and less red to yellow. The red is hot too. Sure you need both?
@DWLANG can I kindly request the ball-end to nut measurements of all your three Höfners'. Since you have three different models of Höfners, it might be a valuable contribution about the solution of the confusion concerning the necessary scale length for the Verytins regarding Pyramid Gold Flats.

I prefer short-scale, and the look and finish don't do anything for me...
I'm not crazy about the finish. I have my first hollow body short scale on the way (Guild Starfire). I'm already looking at others. haha.
I thought the Verythin looked amazing and noticed this. I do like the bridge on this long scale.
Just thought I'd share.
Do you gig with your Verythin? How does that floating bridge hold up?
I need to do more research on that. Also I need to find more sound clips.

Yeah, I don't care for the finish either, and two other things I dig about my Verythin are the stripes on the fretboard and the "bellflower" headstock. My new red Verythin has the new "torch" headstock, and it's ok, but I just love the bellflower.
Another consideration is that the short-scale neck really makes this bass well balanced. I would worry that the long-scale would add weight to the neck and then this bass would be a neck-diver. I like my 500/1 CT Cavern violin bass, but it's a bit neck heavy.
Good point about the fixed bridge on this new long-scale bass. I do gig with mine, and I haven't had any issues with the floating bridge (yet).

Can't say I've had any problems with mine in 25 years.
I do rather like the look of the long scale.

I don't have any experience with them. It just seems like I would play to hard and it would slide out for some reason.
But, if that were an issue I would think that they would stop using them 50 years ago.
For those of you that bought your Verythin without a case, anyone picked up an aftermarket case? Or have a place in the states that sells the fitted case for the Verythin? I have an email out to RnR Vintage and will probably also contact CME.
RnR Vintage would be the first contact, they can put you in touch with Hofner directly...
Thought I'd follow up for anyone that's interested. Rock n' roll vintage seems to be the best option. Sweetwater is also able to order the official Verythin case. Pricing is about the same.
And as for off brand possibilities it seems like the Fender Metro gig bag (made for the Starcaster reissue) will fit and can be had for much cheaper than the Hofner hardcase.
