h2 placement in little space??

Hi friends,

I've a zoom h2 on the way, to record our rehearsal,
but
the room where we play is very little and the amp placement unusual,
we play loud, and I'd like to record and send files to Internet (no editing), for pubs demo and for my buddyes.

the question is where can I put the h2 for best recording?
it will be too close to drums or amps and mics will distort??
it's always better surround recording???

Coat your walls in high and low density foam panels, cover these in bedsheets, stick a bed sheet to your ceiling, hang the H2 from a light fixture or something, and turn your volume DOWN.

oh and after the 'acoustic treatment' and the volume change, it'll still sound terrible if you don't place it right in the room. keep it further away from the drums if possible, closer to guitar amp than bass amp so there's more chance of it picking up the lower bass frequencies - preferably on the opposing wall to the bass amp. (I couldn't see your diagram, so i dont know what your room looks like)

if we turn our volum down the drum'll be only thing we ear...
the guitarist is always at unbelivable volume....

IF NOW YOU SEE THE CHART, ANY SUGGESTION??

Our practice space isn't very big either. I put the H2 up on a mic stand about 7' from the floor and off to one side, nearer to the guitarist than me.

I don't think padding the walls is necessary.

Bed sheets are a good high end damper - but if your space has been soundproofed then it wont be needed.

If I were me, I'd use it in 120 degree mode and place it above and behind the keyboard player, facing toward the Peavey.

+1 and monitor your peak levels on the screen meter before you press Record. Adjust recording volume level at the H2 accordingly.

To me, it sounds like his best bet would be to set the gain slider to "L" and leave the digital gain at 100. He can then normalize as needed on the computer.

Yeah Kevin I agree...that setting worked for me without clipping in a small room (13 feet x 9 feet) and some blasting Peavey PA towers aimed right at the H2. Still doesnt hurt to see those bars stay down under a "boom-boom" test live @ 100 to make sure.
