Had a great gig... WITH A BEHRINGER!

This is pretty much gonna get me crucified on this site for saying it, but...
I boughtt a behringer head a few years back as a backup for my Mesa 400+, cxause of the tubes. Well, over the years my Mesa gave me more problems than ot was worth and got replaced by the behringer. I have since taken every step to upgrade this simple amp into what it is now. I have replaced the wiring that seems to be a big problem in the earlier models, and took it out of its case and rack mounted it. Love it, probably won't ever use another amp ever again.

I have a bx4500h that I also took out of the case and rack-mounted...:D I have yet to replace the wiring, there is a ground hum that I'm going to have to fix, other than that its a monster... What kind of cab do you run it through? Also do you have any pics of it?

I've been gigging for more than a year with a Behringer BX4500. It's rated at 400W and it seems to generate all of that. The tone controls work fine, and it's easy to use. It never has hissed, spit or caused any problem, and it sounds great to my ears.

Yes, their failure rate may be higher than some other brands. But the 4500 has a pretty darn good reputation and reviews, and I'm happy with mine. It has been a decent, dependable amp.

Hey BryanSwift, check the BX4500 reviews on Harmony-Central; there were some hum problems in early models due to a grounding problem, but if memory serves the fix is detailed in one or more of the reviews.

I don't think anyone is going to crucify you for saying that haha. I think some of what I said about Behringer came across wrong. I sounded snobby, and that's not what I intended. I hate when people slag on cheap gear(I run a Ampeg V4 into a Crate 2x15 BTW:))

When I saw all of that stuff it was a few years ago, and it kinda polarized me. I'm not saying Behringer sucks... In fact, I went out head shopping the other day because I want another head to add to my rig . I checked out the Behringer stuff that was in-stock(BXT4500H,BVT5500, and the BXR1800) and I have to say I didn't completely dig the BXT4500. It didn't vibe with me. But I did like the BVT5500. I didn't dig it's sound with the Behringer cabs, but it sounded good through the Ampeg and Ashdown cabs I tried out.

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger, and seeing how some of you have modded Behringers I figured I would ask what I should change out to make it more sturdy for gigging. I'm thinking I'll need to change the jacks on it(since I've seen them go quite a few times). Is there anything else I should do? I'm torn between this ,the Ashdown MAG, and the Acoustic b200. Any info would be cool.

SSSSSSH! Dont tell anybody...but I gig several times a month with my Behringer BX4500...and...Ive got it powering .......a Hartke 2x15 (quick, hit the floor!)...Hehehehehe...Whew! That was close.:hiding:
It rocks, baby...and I have been rockin my Spectors thru it (and Peavey) for years.

My BX4500H is powering a G-K Goldline 4x10, and it sounds GREAT!! I like it much better than the Behringer 4x10...I compared them at Geeeetar Center.

Very original, not to mention you can't spell Behringer...

but anyway this is a great thread, Im really diggin' that Im not the only one who's modded there Behringer head into a rack...

I have a 30-watt Behringer practice amp that absolutely kills. I can even use it on some small gigs if I can get away with it. The shape knob is absolutely useless, but the rest of it is great. I don't know anything about this supposed bad reputation that they have.

and it failed on me after 4 years. it was the output jack. i think they just got a bad name from the elitist bassists. kind of like those kids is grade school that made fun of the people with "lesser" clothing, because they couldn't afford to spend 30 dollars on a shirt.
I loved the tone i got out of it, and only replaced it with the harke 5000 because i wanted more power and the graphic eq. I could also toss the behr around and not worry. because i spent less than 200 on it.
I'm not going to mention the brands that these people play that bash behr (i can mention, that they aren't made in the u.s. of a anymore though:ninja:)
Bottom line, play what you like, i recieved more compliments on my tone from the bx4500h, than i have with the eden 5 times its price.

Totally agree. I'm using an all-Behringer rig, although I don't admit it too often around here. :) Truth is, I went to every music store I could find and played every rig I could put together and the Behringer just sounded better. I tried Hartkes, Ampeg ... you name it, I probably played it. I just kept coming back to the Behringer rig because it just sounded the closest to the sound that I was trying to get.

I'm not trying to be an evangelist for anything here, my only point is that I think the bottom-line on all of the bass/rig arguments is what you think sounds the best for your style. Theology is lovely, but the real test is, how well does it work for what you're doing? If it sounds good to you, go for it.

There, I feel better now.
