Up until a few days ago, I always thought I preferred basses with wide string spacing... 19mm area. I've been playing an SR5 for about 10 years, which doesn't have very wide spacing (~17mm, IIRC), but I always thought wider spacing was something I'd prefer. I have long fingers, so, in my head, the extra room would allow me to stretch a little more. I owned a Lakland JO5 for a while, and I really liked how it felt and played, thus (somewhat) confirming my belief.

A couple days a go, I got a Cort Curbow 5 in a trade. That bass has shattered my thinking completely. Narrow spacing is where it's at! I think this bass has 16-16.5mm spacing, a nice slim neck, and man, is it comfortable! The neck is pretty fast, and I just feel comfortable on it, like no other bass I've played. The tone is good enough, and the body is something I'll need to get used to, but I am seriously loving the neck on this thing! it's got me questioning most everything in regards to what I think I like. Was just looking at a short-scale thread, and it got my gears turning... perhaps I don't want a wide-neckes 35" scale monstrosity... perhaps I want a 32" narrow-necked petite bass. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Anyone else ever have something like this happen?
