Hagstrom Viking Bass Reissue.

I almost pulled the trigger on a black one, was very clean, and used.
But I have an Oscar Schmidt Delta King, same ES 335 body shape.

The Hagstrom is better, with full access to the 22nd fret, more tone options, set neck, and much nicer binding too.
But they were probably made in the same China factory, as they are owned by the same parent company.

I'm thinking seriously of upgrading my Delta King with a deep cutaway for full fret access, some pot replacements, and possibly an Epiphone mudbucker at the neck.
Maybe…

Just picked up a Hagstrom Viking Bass --- in black. Got a great deal on EBAY. We'll see how it turns out when it arrives.

Anyone know how to tell if the tailpiece is the 'upgraded/redesigned' version that Hags fixed --- or if it is the original that is prone to breakage? Does the serial # reveal this?

Also --- first thing for me is to get new strings --- SS roundwounds --- heavy gauge to mimick Peter Hook. Do I get regular/long scale strings or special short scale strings?

Thanks!
I will post pix once I receive the bass

Your Viking Basses Tone Controls?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi!

Just got my Viking(wild cherry transparent) from Thomann on monday. Like it very much, but there is one a little bit weird thing on this bass.
Those two tone controls are working at the same time for both of the pickups! For example neck pickup soloed(humbucking) rolling off treble from "so called" neck pickup tone and then rolling off "so called" bridge pickup tone and it is affecting neck pickup sound too. And same thing for bridge pickup both tone controls affects the sound.
And tried white one on local music store here in Helsinki Finland, same thing. So had to ask from you guys how is your Vikings tone controls are working? same thing maybe? So it is not fault it is quality.
Just thought it should work like on those guitar versions if i choose neck pickup, ONLY the neck pickup tone control is affecting on neck pickup etc.

Thanks

Jussi

Same thing here. It's weird. It must have been a design issue but it actually makes things easier on stage like using a bass with two volumes and one tone knob.

Viking is not a first class custom bass but it is definitely superior than any cheap short scale hollowbody bass. Better than Hofner's far east manufacturing.
