Halo custom Octavia 4 string bass ordered

image.jpg
Well Ive boldy gone where others havent gone before and ordered a custom Halo bass. The Octavia 4 string. So here it is. It will probably arrive in something like 3-5 months. Ill keep you all posted. Specs for this are carved ash body, flame maple veneer, ebony fretboard, maple neck, nordstrand humcancelling passive pickups. I customized the nut width and string spacing and a few other things. I previously spoke with Jeff from Halo guitars and he assured me that they could make the bass to whatever specifications i desired. The dimensions i want are not available in any other basses out there. That is what why i went with Halo. Essentially Im going for a Ibanez-like bass but with a slightly wider neck. I love the Ibanez SR models but The necks are like toothpicks. The Octavia body style is a unique design, so Im keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that the body feels good and balanced and ergonomic. Nothing worse than a horn jabbing you in the chest or a heavy neck diving to the floor constantly. Im sort of a guinea pig right now because Halo isnt known for doing basses. This is a major opportunity for them. If they knock it out of the park my positive reviews could really draw in a lot of clientele for them. Are you listening Halo? lol. Jeff seemed like a great guy so I have no doubt its gonna be killer. I cant wait. So wish me luck!

I have read up on their track record. Trust me, Ive read every review and watched every vid. Heres the thing, they will make the guitar to your exact specifications. So......if you dont like it, its YOUR fault. Now if theres something wrong with the fit or finish im sure they would rectify it. A lot of the negative reviews i read were from guys saying stuff like they didnt like the finish on the back of the neck. Ok, well then that just means you prefer a natural satin neck. That doesnt mean its a bad guitar. Another guy said he didnt like the tone. Once again, the particular pickups and wood combinations selected may not have been his preference.
Halo offered a major discount of $500 off for Halloween. I was hesistant to gamble with the full price of what it would have cost, but with the $500 off I felt a little better about it.
Ive been playing bass for many years and ive played every commercial bass out there. i simply cannot get what i need without going custom. I dont have the cash to pay $5k or $10k so that means I have to look at companies like Carvin and Halo. And to be honest, Ive played $10k sadowski and Dingwall, etc, and while they were superb imstruments, they were not for me. Halo is literally my only option at this point. My last hope. Lol.

Could someone point me to these "negative track record" reviews? I actually googled for info and didn't find anything other than their site, and the current round of related threads here.

I'll say this about their site - there custom configuration tool works better than either Carvin's or Warmoth's, though the quality of the image generated isn't quite as good, way easier to work through all sorts of options and see results visually. Whoever designed that tool software should be talking to Carvin and Warmoth (or the other way around, actually).

So what was the outcome because I am in the same boat. Halo will make me a bass with my exact specs for under $3k and I’m being very picky with what I want. Was it worth it?
