Hamer 12-string bass ?!?

I finally got to try a 12er, a Invalid Link Removed, a few months ago. I've been wanting to try a 12 for some time.

I was surprised how DIFFICULT it was to play! I don't mean in terms of strength – that was fine – but I just couldn't tell which string I was playing with my fretting hand. I'd try to fret the A string(s), but instead I'd ending fretting half of the A courses and half of the D courses! Very confusing! And my plucking hand didn't fare much better. :help:

I'm sure you'd get used to it after playing it for a while, but in the ten or so minutes I tried in the store, I was completely hopeless! :rollno:

I've played 8-strings before, and never had a problem, but the 12 just did not get along well with my ingrained muscle memory.

I've never encountered a guitarist who hates a 12-string bass and why would they anyway? Just takes a load off them in a rhythm guitar department especially in a trio.

I have two, a Waterstone TP-2 from the first batch with a very wide neck and a customised/bastardised Hamer CH-12 with a new B12S -style body (hated the Chaparral body). I now play in a drummerless trio and use the 12-string in that on stage all the time.
