Hamer Club?!

Wacky paint job? I like those "granite" finishes they did.

Hamer did some of the nicest custom finishes out there. Their graphics guy back then, Jim O'Connr was outstanding, especialy with his snakeskin, celestial and marble finishes.

Here's a poor pic of my Chaparral Max at rehearsal recently

my Hamer velocity, 4 string, honeyburst finish, plays like butter. Still my favorite daily player after 3 years and 4 other basses coming through my hands. Oddly, it doesn't have a serial no. on it. Hard to get info on this model.

The numbers on the Hamer import models weren't "Serial Numbers, per se. Same for many of the stick on adnesive numbers on other brand imports. What those are are a way for U.S. Dept of Commerce to keep a count on how many import pieces are being made by a manufacturer. It 's just a headcount, not a Serial Number that a manufacturer can look up and tell you specs on. Only the U.S. Hamer models had SN#s that were kept in a logbook with the original specs of the build. Unfortunately, I was told that the goons that Fender hired to "close" Hamer, forced the employees to destroy most everything at the factory and throw it all into the dumpsters....logbooks, templates and all the important stuff too....or else they would not get their severance checks. Real Nazi B.S.

I just picked up my third USA 2Tek. I had sold one, as it had a wider string spacing for some reason. I got this as a project bass, it was beat up, but for 450 and bordering my favorite bass i felt i had to do it. So here's this beat up metallic blue that they made, i unpack it, go to tune it and the nut falls off. I can see its not the original nut as i have this same bass. To me the most impressive thing is even in this condition, it still plays better than almost anything i've ever pick up (and certainly 100% better than any Fender ever). Nice knowing you guys as i will probably now get kicked off TB.
Oh, and mc2ny, i constantly google specs for Hamer instruments, they are hard to find to not at all. I cant even find what nut material was used on this last purchase.

I cant even find what nut material was used on this last purchase.

Most 90s thru early 2000s used their black 'lubritrak' synthetic material. I have several 90s up to '04 Hamers that all have that type of nut, and '05 and '07 guitars with bone - so they seem to have switched back around then.

Can't say I notice much difference, and if I were replacing I wouldn't go out of my way trying to track down that synthetic material. I always make my replacements out of bone blanks if I have to swap one out...

Any idea is lubitrak is the same as TUSQ. I have a bone blank, but its white unbleached. I have no problem using it, i;ll have to look at some models and see if it looks funny. Most of my nuts do seem to be black.

I have almost nothing. The Slammers, tried them at a store, was unimpressed. Bought a Hamer Velocity even though it wasnt much better. Looks like someone modded the bridge, i put the same on the Velocity. Didnt help much. One thing i say about the modded Velocity is people seem to compliment the tone, only reason i kept it.

Hi All, Would like to share some pics of a Hamer bass a just picked up at a pawn shop. Any juicy bits of info on the model feel free to share. Cheers Rusty View attachment 2837562View attachment 2837563 View attachment 2837565 View attachment 2837566

Hi, nice bass, needs new strings, ahah!

That is not a Slammer bass, those were made in Indonesia.

The Hamer Slammer Series is the first imported bass Hamer did, according to a former Hamer worker (e-mailed me some information) and was made in Korea with components sent from Hamer USA. They were made somewhere between 1995 and 1997. Then, Hamer moved the production to Indonesia and on the headstock it was only writen "Hamer". Later they became only "Slammer". Very different basses.

I think the bridge is original, very similar to the one in my bass and I think it's a Schaller 3D.
