OK, so passaround bass has not yet reached jumbodbassman, in case anyone was wondering why there wasn't any posts on that. It's waiting at the post office for pickup, which he'll be able to get done on the weekend, at which point he's hopefully able to share some feedback. Meyatch is buy it, so once it's done it CT it goes back to Meyatch to stay. (yay)
And for some added K info... I have planned to make a better post on the weekend, but it turns out the whole gallery of pictures I wanted to use was on a phone that is presently smashed ans awaiting repair so I can pull the data off. In the meantime, here is one of the pics that I pulled from a FB message.
What you see here is an under-the-hood shot with the pickguard removed. You can see how for the neck pickup, it has to span over the extended portion of the neck and cannot be routed, since it's a bolt on. The Alumitone is the ONLY pickup that will work, and we have to have them made with the primary turned to the outside (as per humbucker shown in pic), rather than the usual way of having it turned under the pickup for mounting into the usual cavity. I think a lot of the time, this will be a single pickup bass, and if there is a second pickup, it's more likely to be at the bridge rather than the neck. Also, what is becoming clear is that we're going to build all the Alumitone K basses with a single-parallel-series switch for the humbucker. It's very hot and for a lot of players and styles, the other two settings will be necessary. I'm not yet sure what we'll do on the two pickup bass. It was going to be single-parallel-series between the twp pickups, but I think a better bet will be to have the pickups in series or parallel (both at same time) and then use either two volumes or volume-blend. This will be an option determined by each buyer prior to their build, with proper sound clips to help.

I leave in the morning for LA to attend Bass Player Live. I'll be meeting with Svetlana tomorrow night to get the Surf Green K back and discuss the details of her final build, though I already have a 51P pickup from Nordstrand that I think will be the ticket, if not a pair of Dano style lipsticks. The other player I'd rather not name, but he's eager for a K and a pickup test will be key. Who kows who else gets their hands on it, but will share anything worthwhile here.
