Hammersmith K4 - TalkBass Special Model

Talked to them several times today, most recently to describe the carton (FFS!). The crazy thing is that Puro Ground was like $28.50 or something (showing 1 day service) while the Puro Express was $29.80 or thereabouts (also showing the 1 day service). I thought, for a measly extra buck, why not make sure it gets there the very next day? At this point, we'll be lucky if it reaches you tomorrow (day 3).
In 20 months or so, and around 130 basses shipped at this point, this is the first time the package has been lost. It's the smallest of distances we've shipping shipped, and remaining in Canada - never mind borders and oceans other shipments have crossed - this is the one that has been delayed the most. I just can't seem to score a win here.

On the bright side, at least it’s not a paying customer.
I saw that and being a big Maiden fan thought "well this is a good sign!"
Paying customer or not, it's still a $1000+ instrument missing. The good news is it's sorta local and if I have to drive to their depot to cause a stink, I can, unlike if it went to say Portland or Orlando.

Pass around bass update!
Well, it’s been sitting at my home town purolator depot since Tuesday, I finally went down there on a whim, and sure enough, after a long funny story, they found it, shipping documents came out of the envelope somewhere along the line. Fortunately, it made to it’s first foster home, and fortunately I’m in a small town, so the depot is small.
I’ll post some pics tomorrow, but first impressions are very positive, and those BigSplits man, wow! Me likey!

I think the bass is staying with DerekW through the weekend, and then goes to @Meyatch on Monday. Hopefully we can get some feedback from the guys who are getting the bass and trying a Hammersmith for the first time. Craig is up next - pls watch your email.
That Remco video - was that a 30" 20-fret I presume? I'd be way into that over the more-reach 24-fret version.

We have two of the 30" with Jesse Keeler and one other neck here in the shop, otherwise any of the black, white and surf green protos that you may have seen pics or vids of are all 33.25".
Music China is this coming weekend. I'm not traveling overseas - partly because I can't afford the time away but also because I don't think my back can handle the 15hr flights. In any case, the OEM has said they'll have a firm update after the show. *fingers crossed*

Yeah, I wasn't thinking about the Canadian Thanksgiving when I mentioned earlier that the bass would go out Monday. I've sent Derek an email today so we can get this moving (cc'd to you), just need to determine the best carrier and I'll set it up from there.

I’m a lousy reviewer, as I’m really just a hobbyist, so I can’t get too technical.
I can definitely say the fit and finish on the bass is first rate, as nice as any “big manufacturer” bass I’ve played. The C4 balances perfectly, and the BigSplits pickups are fantastic!
I did lower the action a bit as I like it on the low side (one full turn each bolt) and the wrenches are in the front pocket of the also nice gig bag.
Nice jazz neck width nut, but seems a little girthier than my MIM jazz, maybe my imagination, but anyway, I prefer that. I’ve been playing a short scale, so that took a little getting used to, and unfortunately, my week with here was busy as hell, and I was out of town most of the two weekends, so I didn’t get as much time as I would have liked to just sit and play.
But I guess I would sum up my opinion as this... it is a fine quality instrument, it felt good in the hands and on a strap right away, it sounded fantastic in all eq/balance settings, and was a joy to play. I wouldn’t hesitate to order one of the exact same models, but I’d likely go with30” if that’s an option, the K4 I ordered will be 30”.
So long story short, the best review I can give it is to say, I’d be proud to own one, and it makes me feel even better about hanging in fo the K4. Great bass for the money.

Are there any estimates on what the availability of the 30" scale 24-fret Jesse Keeler sig(?) bass will be once production ramps up? Will that be more of a limited run type thing, or will that model be a normal production model?
I can't really answer that fully as it's something that has not been formally agreed to yet.
From our standpoint, we'd like it to be an ongoing product. What that means in practice, though, is that we would be running it in batches over and over - it may not always be on the shelf ready to go. Being local, the idea is to meet with Jesse every so often and get him to personally sign whatever case candy goes into each package and that might vary from batch to batch.
As far as details of the instrument, it will definitely be a woodgrain finish, likely a barnboard or walnut look. 30" 24 fret with a special setup in terms of pickups and coil switching that makes it even more unique from the regular models.

Well it’s here. I didn’t get home til pretty late last night so I didn’t get to play it much. I noodled a little bit today. It plays great. It was a little overly bright through my little practice amp at home. I lowered the bridge pickup a tad and it seemed to help. I’m on my way to a gig now, so I will have much more thorough impressions.
I like the Dunlop straplocks. Does the k come with those? I was able to throw on this strap from my collection of matching straps. The gig bag seems nice too. Is that what comes with the k?
